{"id":207767,"date":"2025-11-27T14:04:58","date_gmt":"2025-11-27T14:04:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/entertainment.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2025\/11\/27\/the-simple-post-meal-habit-experts-want-you-to-try\/"},"modified":"2025-11-27T14:04:58","modified_gmt":"2025-11-27T14:04:58","slug":"the-simple-post-meal-habit-experts-want-you-to-try","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entertainment.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2025\/11\/27\/the-simple-post-meal-habit-experts-want-you-to-try\/","title":{"rendered":"The Simple Post-Meal Habit Experts Want You to Try"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With Thanksgiving right around the corner, many people are gearing up to indulge in holiday favorites \u2014 from mashed potatoes to creamy mac and cheese and everything in between.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThanksgiving is one of the most iconic holidays, and food is a great thing, but it doesn\u2019t have to be this all-or-nothing mindset,\u201d says <\/span><b>Dr. Ian Smith<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, physician and author of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eat Your Age<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, speaking to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/health\/diet-fitness\/doctor-1-thing-big-holiday-meal-rcna245031\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Smith, one of the most beneficial things you can do after a large holiday meal is surprisingly simple, take a short walk. \u201cYou\u2019ve got to move if you can,\u201d he adds.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even just a few minutes can make a difference, and Smith suggests turning it into a group activity to make it even more enjoyable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Emma Laing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, PhD, RDN, a national spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the director of dietetics at the University of Georgia, also highlighted the added benefits of walking after a large meal in an interview with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellfit.com\/is-it-good-to-walk-after-eating-8665257\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">VerywellFit<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWalking after eating can stimulate blood flow throughout the body and can help the stomach and intestines digest food at a faster rate versus being sedentary,\u201d said Laing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She added, \u201cWhen the process of digestion is aided in this way, there is less time for gasses to build up in the presence of undigested food in the GI tract, bowel movements occur more regularly, and there is a reduced risk for conditions like bloating, heartburn, cramping, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, and even colorectal cancer.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodrx.com\/well-being\/movement-exercise\/benefits-of-walking-after-eating?srsltid=AfmBOorTXi24lRfLgoMUzA2kD_bZgLWNS0k6X02PrqWQSSOOM4TXZfdx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stepping outside<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> isn\u2019t an option, Smith recommends any light movement to help digestion.
