Joe Keery is nerdy<\/p>\n
\nThe 33-year-old actor-and-musician – who is best known for playing heartthrob Steve Harrington in Stranger Things – admitted people can be surprised by how “silly” and geeky he is when they get to know him.<\/p>\n
\nAsked what people would be surprised to realise about him, he told America’s ELLE magazine: “That I\u2019m a bit of a nerd, deep down. I was a nerdy theatre kid, making movies with my friends. <\/p>\n
\n“On tour earlier this year, my friends and I were hanging with some of the crew from the other band, and one of the young ladies said, ‘Wow, you guys are not how I expected you to be.’<\/p>\n
\n“And I think it was because we were just being silly. And kind of nerdy.”<\/p>\n
\nWhen it comes to what he finds attractive in the opposite sex, Joe looks for a sense of humour.<\/p>\n
\nAsked what makes him go weak at the knees, he said: “When someone\u2019s funny. When somebody\u2019s quick-witted and you have that immediate back-and-forth going on\u2014that to me is like, Yep, here we go.”<\/p>\n
\nThe End of Beginning hitmaker, who releases music under the alias Djo, believes it is important to “own” when people are wrong in relationships.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: “I had a friend reach out for advice for this dilemma. And I feel like, you\u2019ve just gotta be real clean and honest with it\u2014really upfront\u2014especially if you\u2019re in the wrong. You just gotta own it.<\/p>\n
\n“Also, [buying them] a little something might help. Maybe you\u2019re getting someone flowers, or you\u2019re taking them to a place they like to go. Just taking the knee for the other person and saying, ‘I messed up. I\u2019m so sorry.’ \u201d<\/p>\n
\nMeanwhile, although Joe was initially “incredibly intimidated” by his Stranger Things co-star Winona Ryder, he is very grateful for her friendship because she has so much knowledge to share.<\/p>\n
\nDiscussing which woman he has learned most from, he said: “I got a lot of great women in my life, obviously my family, but the first person who comes to mind is Winona Ryder. I was incredibly intimidated at first because I grew up on her movies. But as I got to know her, I learned how invested and passionate she is about work.<\/p>\n
\n“She really knows her stuff – loves music and film, maybe more than anyone else in my life. I\u2019ll get a random text, like, ‘Here\u2019s an isolated Marvin Gaye vocal track from the stems that they never used from this song.’ The deepest cuts.<\/p>\n
\n“She\u2019s like an encyclopedia, and she\u2019s eager to share. She\u2019s been to a million shows. It\u2019s cool to have someone who\u2019s just really excited by all of this.”<\/p>\n
