From racist remarks and behaviors to threats of violence, expulsions, attempts at censorship and more,\u201d Armstrong wrote in his new book, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Behind-Mirror-Inside-World-Brother\/dp\/1464224536\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Behind the Mirror<\/em><\/a>, which hit bookstands on Tuesday, November 25. \u201cThe live feeds have at least functioned as a safeguard against the worst the genre has to offer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Over the years, Armstrong has become a popular figure in the Big Brother fanbase as he provides daily updates about what\u2019s going on in the house as a member of the \u201cRob Has a Podcast\u201d (RHAP) team. (\u201cRHAP\u201d was created by <em>Survivor<\/em> alum <strong>Rob Cesternino<\/strong> and is a popular reality TV podcast that covers countless shows including <em>Survivor<\/em>, <em>Big Brother<\/em>, <em>The Traitors<\/em> and more.)<\/p>\n<p>Armstrong added that while the <em>Big Brother<\/em> live feeds are a protective agent for the players and viewers, \u201cthere\u2019s still plenty of room for improvement\u201d as the show has continued to run for nearly three decades.<\/p>\n<div class=\"link-related article link-related__with-thumb\">\n\t\t\t<a class=\"article__thumbnail related-ab-test\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/entertainment\/news\/why-lance-bass-would-never-compete-on-big-brother\/\" target=\"\" data-source=\"01\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/p>\n<figure class=\"article__figure\">\n<div style=\"padding-bottom:56.25%;\" class=\"ratio-based-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"article__content\">\n<h3 class=\"article__title\">\n\t\t\t<a class=\"article__title-link related-ab-test\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/entertainment\/news\/why-lance-bass-would-never-compete-on-big-brother\/\" target=\"\" data-source=\"01\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n    <span class=\"related-badge\">Related: <\/span><span class=\"related-title\">Why Lance Bass Would Never Go on \u2018Big Brother\u2019 Despite Being a Big Fan<\/span><\/a><br \/>\n\t\t<\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\n\t\t\tWhile Lance Bass considers himself to be a Big Brother superfan, he doesn\u2019t see himself ever competing on the reality show. \u201cI don\u2019t think I would ever do Big Brother, just [because of] the 24\/7 live element,\u201d Bass, 44, said during the Monday, August 28, episode of his \u201cFrosted Tips\u201d podcast. \u201cBecause especially these days, [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Fans of <em>Big Brother<\/em> know all too well that there have been countless controversies surrounding the show over the years. In <em>Behind the Mirror,<\/em> Armstrong recalls the history of<em> Big Brother<\/em>, starting with the show\u2019s early beginnings as an adaptation of the original Netherlands program before becoming the Americanized version fans know today. Armstrong also revisits the show\u2019s countless controversial moments, from ones that fans will recognize from certain episodes to others that never made the final cut.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s so much learning that you can do through the show. And one of the things that you can learn is the ways that other reality shows might be lying to you that you don\u2019t even realize,\u201d Armstrong exclusively told <em>Us Weekly<\/em> about why the live feeds make <em>Big Brother<\/em> special while discussing his book. \u201cBecause if you at least know the events of the feeds, you don\u2019t need to watch them yourself. Some people will come to it, looking for something that\u2019s not there, especially because it\u2019s about reality TV,\u201d Armstrong said of what he hopes <em>Big Brother<\/em> fans will take away from his debut book. \u201cIf you come to this book looking for juicy secrets and details or whatever, or gossip, you know that\u2019s not really what the book was intended to be. The show has been criticized for racism and discrimination over the years, making major waves with an incident that occurred in season 15. During the 2013 season, Aaryn Gries referred to Asian people as \u201csquinty-eyed,\u201d called her Black roommate Candice Stewart \u201cAunt Jemima\u201d and asked her Korean housemate\u00a0Helen [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Armstrong started writing <em>Behind the Mirror<\/em> after season 24 ended in September 2022. The podcaster spent a lot of time researching the history behind the show while also speaking to other players about their experiences in the game, including <strong>Tiffany Mitchell<\/strong>, winner <strong>Steve Moses<\/strong> and more. While Armstrong is used to covering <em>Big Brother<\/em> in real-time, going back to the archives was an interesting experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen a season is live, it\u2019s very up and down, you know?
