The co-screenwriter of the movie Wicked: For Good<\/strong><\/a><\/em> is opening up about the meaning behind that final shot of Ariana Grande<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s Glinda with the Grimmerie at the end of the movie.<\/p>\n This post contains spoilers, so beware of reading further if you don\u2019t want to know what happens!<\/em><\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n At the end of Wicked: For Good<\/em>, Glinda believes that Elphaba has died and she has been entrusted with the Grimmerie, the magic book of spells. Even though she doesn\u2019t know how to read it, Elphaba gives Glinda the book and encourages her to learn.<\/p>\n In the final moments of the movie, Glinda is looking at the book and it magically opens for her, seemingly signaling that she either has earned the gift of magic or Elphaba has given it to her. <\/p>\n Dana Fox<\/strong> co-wrote the movies with Broadway writer Winnie Holzman<\/strong>. She opened up about that moment in a new interview with Deadline<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cThe other thing that kills me dead is when Elphaba gives Glinda the Grimmerie and Glinda finally says, \u2018You know I can\u2019t read that.\u2019 I die. To me, that performance and the fact that she says that and has that moment \u2014 that is her deepest shame,\u201d Dana <\/strong>said. \u201cIn the film, we created the scene where you see her as a child, her deep want and need, and the original wound she has, and you understand how hard it is for Glinda to say she can\u2019t access that magic. That\u2019s the hardest thing for her to say and admit.\u201d<\/p>\n She added, \u201cThe fact that she admits it, to me, is why I think she earns the Grimmerie opening to her at the end of the film, which is also not in the play.\u201d<\/p>\n Dana<\/strong> still is leaving it open for interpretation.<\/p>\n \u201cWinnie <\/strong>and I are desperate for all that to be open to everyone else\u2019s interpretation. And we love how much people feel like they can find themselves in these movies, and they can figure out whether they think it means this or that. And at the end, when Elphaba smiles and you can\u2019t tell, it\u2019s like, did she open it for her? Does she know that it opened for her? Did she feel it opening for her? What is that? That should be everyone\u2019s moment to decide how they want it to be and how they feel about it. I get chills just thinking about that ending, though. I love it so much,\u201d Dana <\/strong>added.<\/p>\n The director of Wicked <\/em>is also opening up about the very final shot of the movie<\/a>, with Glinda whispering into Elphaba\u2019s ear. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
