I\u2019m praying for his family and all the kids. He was a kind human being, extremely talented and funny,\u201d she continued, adding:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe had a great sense of humor and [was] an awesome guitar player. Yesterday was your birthday, I forgot to call you and I\u2019m so sorry. I love u Bean. Rest in peace and power.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jellybean \u2014 whose real name was Garry George Johnson \u2014 reportedly died unexpectedly. His cause of death is unknown at this time.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Jellybean Johnson reflects on music journey from birth of Minneapolis sound to new album | FOX 9 KMS\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_7txsg9uwoI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-an-iconic-career-behind-the-kit\">An iconic career behind the kit<\/h2>\n<p>Born November 19, 1956 in Chicago, Johnson made the acquaintance of Prince early in his career.<\/p>\n<p>In 1981, the music legend recruited Johnson to be part of the funk rock band The Time as part of his deal with Warner Bros. to produce other artists.<\/p>\n<p>In 1985, he and The Time delivered a memorable performance in Prince\u2019s wildly popular film<em> Purple Rain<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to his work with The Time, Johnson played the drums for such major acts as Patti LaBelle, Human League, New Edition, Cherrelle, and Alexander O\u2019Neal.<\/p>\n<p>He also worked as a producer, helping to engineer such hits as Janet Jackson\u2019s 1990 number one single \u201cBlack Cat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2008, Johnson performed with Rihanna at the Grammy Awards. <\/p>\n<p>He dedicated his later years to projects such music-related humanitarian projects as the Minneapolis Sound Museum and the Jellybean Johnson Experience, in which he performed with gifted up-and-comers.<\/p>\n<p>Our thoughts go out to Jellybean Johnson\u2019s loved ones during this difficult time.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/2025\/11\/jellybean-johnson-cause-of-death-the-time-drummer-was-69\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reading Time: 2 minutes We have sad news to report from the world of music today: Jellybean Johnson, the drummer for the beloved soul and R&amp;B band Morris Day and The Time, has passed away at the age of 69.
