And then there were three. News of the Sex and the City<\/em><\/a> revival series, And Just Like That<\/em><\/a>, came with one major caveat: Kim Cattrall<\/strong><\/a>, who played PR maven Samantha Jones, would not be part of the new show.<\/p>\n In January 2021, Sarah Jessica Parker<\/strong><\/a> confirmed a \u201cnew chapter\u201d of Sex and the City<\/em> was in development at HBO Max with an Instagram video showing clips of New York City. \u201cI couldn\u2019t help but wonder \u2026 where are they now?\u201d she wrote at the time.<\/p>\n The Family Stone<\/em> actress was nominated for 10 Primetime Emmys during the show\u2019s original run from 1998 to 2004, taking home a trophy in 2001 for producing and winning Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 2004 for her role as Carrie Bradshaw.<\/p>\n When the revival series was announced, HBO confirmed that Carrie\u2019s best friends<\/a> Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon<\/strong><\/a>) and Charlotte York (Kristin Davis<\/strong><\/a>) would be along for the ride too \u2014 without Cattrall. Though some fans were disappointed by the news that the quartet had become a trio<\/a>, others weren\u2019t entirely surprised given the Mannequin<\/em> star\u2019s highly publicized feud with Parker.<\/p>\n Rumors of tension began in December 2004<\/a> as the show was coming to an end. At the time, Cattrall said that she\u2019d asked for a salary of $1 million per episode. \u201cWhen they didn\u2019t seem keen on that, I thought it was time to move on,\u201d she told Jonathan Ross<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Later, Parker stood up for her former costar\u2019s right to ask for more money, saying that \u201cno one should vilify her\u201d for wanting a pay raise. \u201cPeople made a decision that we had vilified her,\u201d the Divorce<\/em> alum explained in May 2008. \u201cNo one bothered to say [to the rest of us], \u2018Are you disappointed by not making the movie?\u2019 Yes. \u2018Do you respect and support her choice to not do it?\u2019 Absolutely.’\u201d<\/p>\n Nearly a decade later, however, things hit a boiling point when news broke that a third Sex and the City<\/em> film wouldn\u2019t be happening. After Parker said she was \u201cdisappointed\u201d by the situation, the late Willie Garson<\/a> retweeted an article claiming that Cattrall was the reason the movie was off the table. \u201cAnd that is that. And sadly, the reasons are true. Period,\u201d he wrote in September 2017.<\/p>\n While the tension had largely been about professional endeavors until that point, things got personal following the death of Cattrall\u2019s brother in February 2018. After Parker sent her condolences via Instagram, the Filthy Rich<\/em> alum publicly called her out.<\/p>\n \u201cYour continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now,\u201d she wrote via Instagram at the time. \u201cLet me make this VERY clear (if I haven\u2019t already). You are not my family. You are not my friend.
