Glen Powell<\/strong><\/a> used his Saturday Night Live<\/em> debut to settle a four-year-old score with a UPS driver.<\/p>\n

The Chad Powers<\/em> actor, 37, revealed during his monologue on Saturday, November 15, that he was originally supposed to make his SNL<\/em> hosting debut in December 2021 to promote Top Gun: Maverick<\/em>. Unfortunately, the booking was cancelled when the Top Gun<\/em> sequel was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic \u2014 and Paul Rudd<\/strong> was brought in to host that year\u2019s SNL<\/em> Christmas episode instead.<\/p>\n

At the time, Powell was especially disappointed to have lost the Saturday Night Live<\/em> hosting gig because he\u2019d already told a UPS driver about it.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I got the call [to host SNL<\/em>], I was on a porch with my family and we just all lost our minds,\u201d Powell remembered. \u201cWe were jumping up and down, celebrating. A UPS driver happened to be delivering a package at that exact same moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Powell encouraged the delivery driver to \u201ctune in\u201d for the Christmas episode and even took a selfie with him to celebrate.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy dream got taken away,\u201d the actor explained. \u201cTop Gun<\/em> got delayed because of COVID so SNL<\/em> had to take their offer back. [Producer] Lorne Michaels<\/strong> called me and said \u2014 these are his words \u2014 \u2018Without Top Gun<\/em>, no one will know who the F you are!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

He admitted that it bothered him for the past four years that \u201cthis UPS driver was just going around saying Glen Powell is a liar.\u201d When SNL<\/em> finally rebooked Powell to host the show, the actor enlisted his sisters to help him find the UPS driver.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy sisters tracked him down because the women in my family are terrifying,\u201d he confirmed. \u201cThey found the cell number of this UPS guy. His name is Mitch. So, to prove to Mitch that I am not a liar, I flew him all the way to New York \u2014 [in] coach because I don\u2019t know how Running Man<\/em><\/a> is going to do yet. \u2026 He thought it was a scam but he still came!\u201d<\/p>\n

The camera then cut to Mitch in the front row of Studio 8H, as Powell asked the audience to \u201cgive it up for Mitch the UPS guy.\u201d He then brought Mitch on stage to recreate their original selfie to bring their story \u201cfull circle.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I have learned anything, it is that the best things in life don\u2019t happen overnight,\u201d Powell told viewers. \u201cAnd no one knows that better than UPS.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prior to making his debut on the sketch comedy series, Powell revealed to People<\/em><\/a> that it was a lifelong dream to appear on Saturday Night Live<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so excited,\u201d Powell. \u201cHosting SNL<\/em> has been a thing I\u2019ve wanted to do my entire life.\u201d<\/p>\n
