Dolly Parton turns 80 in January<\/p>\n
The Jolene singer will turn 80 in January but she isn’t worried about ageing because she feels like she is “just getting started” and has other things to focus on.<\/p>\n
She told People magazine: \u201cPeople say, \u2018Well, you\u2019re going to be 80 years old.\u2019 Well, so what? Look at all I\u2019ve done in 80 years. I feel like I\u2019m just getting started.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know that sounds stupid, but unless my health gives way, which right now I seem to be doing fine . . . I think there\u2019s a lot to be said about age. If you allow yourself to get old, you will. I say, \u2018I ain\u2019t got time to get old!\u2019 I ain\u2019t got time to dwell on that. That\u2019s not what I\u2019m thinking about.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dolly – whose husband Carl Dean died earlier this year – has been reflecting on how much she has “sacrificed” for the sake of her career over the years.<\/p>\n
\nReflecting on her new book, Star of the Show: My Life on Stage , she said: \u201cYou know, I have just been going so fast my whole life.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cAnd I just start thinking, \u2018How in the world did I even have a life? How did I even get it done?\u2019 I really realised when I was putting this book together just how much I had sacrificed in my life. <\/p>\n
\n“I never had children, so at least I didn\u2019t have a guilty feeling. I\u2019m thankful that I got to see my dreams come true.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe 9 to 5 hitmaker has faced sexism throughout her career but has never let that put her off trying new things in the public eye.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cYou have to grow into things, and you have to grow out of things; that\u2019s how I handled my career.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI needed to try things. A lot of people think because you\u2019re a girl, you don\u2019t always know what you\u2019re doing. I don\u2019t care about what other people are doing. I only care about what I need to be doing.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI don\u2019t try to tell other people how to do it, how to be, but I know who I am.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI\u2019m a star to everybody but me. I\u2019m just a working girl. I always just say that I\u2019m a workhorse that looks like a show horse.\u201d<\/p>\n
