Funny, too far, or a bold way to tackle important issues?<span class=\"image-caption-credit\"> (Image Credit: NBC)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-nikki-glaser-hosted-saturday-night-live-and-delivered-a-lengthy-monologue\">Nikki Glaser hosted \u2018Saturday Night Live\u2019 and delivered a lengthy monologue<\/h2>\n<p><em>Saturday Night Live<\/em> monologues tend to be pretty hit-or-miss.<\/p>\n<p>Some would say that the best monologues come from people who are already comedians. <\/p>\n<p>But Nikki Glaser, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=P08QJ5CK3jY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">her monologue<\/a>, and <em>SNL <\/em>are under fire for her jokes on the Saturday, November 8 episode.<\/p>\n<p>To be blunt, she cracked jokes about sex trafficking, pedophilia, and the sexual abuse of children.<\/p>\n<p>These are heavy topics with a lot of real-world parallels. It\u2019s so antisocial.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Glaser described: \u201cYou\u2019re just sitting there watching\u00a0\u2018Beat Bobby Flay\u2019\u00a0on mute. You can\u2019t talk to the woman doing your nails because \u2026 slavery? I don\u2019t know! She seems stuck and sad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That is essentially an edgy version of <em>what\u2019s the deal with airline food<\/em>. They\u2019re in every world language,\u201d she continued. \u201cThe English is really tiny and it\u2019s like, \u2018You wish.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This flavor of joke about sex trafficking feels very 2008. <\/p>\n<p>That was an era when it was more mainstream to joke about horrors while pretending that things like sexual predation was complimentary (often as the punchline).<\/p>\n<p>Glaser acknowledged that men\u2019s restrooms do not tend to have this language.<\/p>\n<p>She joked that men are more likely to see writing that reads: \u201cYou have signs that are like, \u2018Want a slave? Never. That\u2019s disgusting!\u2019\u201d Glaser noted. \u201cBut that\u2019s what I\u2019d say if I was gonna. [Child abusers] lie. Don\u2019t trust anyone! I don\u2019t even trust myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Glaser then joked: \u201cI don\u2019t wanna go in there! As you can imagine, online backlash was pretty intense. <\/p>\n<p>However, others have spoken up to defend her. Some praised her for shining a light on important topics.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s right when she says that there are too many people who trust relatives absolutely. The vast majority of child sex abuse cases involve family or family friends, because these are the predators who have access.<\/p>\n<p>The people accusing Glaser of being a secret sexual predator for telling these jokes have thoroughly lost the plot. <\/p>\n<p>In fact, YouTube commenters under the video (normally the worst commenters on the internet) seemed to heap praise upon the stand-up for tackling heavy topics in a way that brought laughs.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe <em>SNL <\/em>isn\u2019t the best audience to tell edgy humor that wouldn\u2019t have seemed so edgy 15 years ago.
