Brittany Snow<\/strong> made sure to do her research while preparing to play journalist Mandy Matney<\/strong> on Hulu\u2019s true crime series Murdaugh: Death in the Family<\/em>.<\/p>\n As Snow, 39, prepared to play her real-life counterpart on the show, she revealed she actually got to talk to Matney and asked her \u201cso many\u201d questions.<\/p>\n \u201cAt first, I was talking to her a lot about the character and about how I wanted to encapsulate her and her essence,\u201d Snow told People<\/a><\/em> in an interview published on Wednesday, November 5.<\/p>\n \u201cThen, after a while, I just wanted to get down to the nitty-gritty and ask her actual case questions. I was hoping that over time she would slip and give me some insider information, and she did sometimes. The former lawyer murdered his wife, Maggie Murdaugh<\/strong>, and their son Paul Murdaugh<\/strong> in 2021, and the case made national headlines that also exposed his financial crimes and fraud schemes.<\/p>\n In real life and on the show, Matney launched the \u201cMurdaugh Murders Podcast (MMP),\u201d which investigated the case as it was unfolding in real time.<\/p>\n When it came to portraying Matney, Snow said she made it clear \u201cfrom the very beginning\u201d that she \u201cwas never going to do an imitation<\/a>\u201d of the journalist.<\/p>\n \u201cThat would be doing a disservice to her, to me and to my performance,\u201d the Hunting Wives<\/em> star said. \u201cWhat I wanted to make sure I was doing was encapsulating sort of an essence of her. I felt like there were certain mannerisms I wanted to pay homage to in the best way that I could. I think she was proud of the performance.\u201d<\/p>\n
