Mod Sun and Avril Lavigne ended their brief engagement in February 2023<\/p>\n
The musicians first started dating in 2021 and were briefly engaged in March 2022, but called it quits less than a year later.<\/p>\n
Avril moved on with rapper Tyga in March that year, but that romance fizzled out, and Mod Sun was left heartbroken performing their duet Flames at his concerts.<\/p>\n
Recounting how they first met, he told the Bunnie Xo\u2019s Dumb Blonde Podcast: \u201cWe met through a truly awesome label making music.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u201cIt was lovely. She was a true talent being around. I write and produce songs for other artists, so it was amazing coming up with an idea and seeing someone so f****** talented sing it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nMod Sun had also co-written tracks for Avril’s 2022 album Love Sux.<\/p>\n
\nAnd while he says the Complicated hitmaker helped him deal with some mental health issues and was a “wonderful influence” on her, it conceded that they were “two different people”.<\/p>\n
\nHe reflected: \u201cWe\u2019re two different people, but I think I had a great influence on her.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI think she couldn\u2019t have had a more wonderful influence on me from the side of [helping me] grow up. Like now, I\u2019m very secure of who I am, because I\u2019ve been lost in the last three years of wondering, \u2018Where do I fit in?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe songwriter explained that he had to do some inner work to lead with “empathy” and only wishes “love” on his ex-partners.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cI pray every single day, and in those prayers, I\u2019m like, \u2018Just allow me to lead with empathy and be a shining light.’<\/p>\n
\n\u201cMy form of empathy is finally attached to being like, \u2018Dude, you\u2019ve got to get outside of yourself. When someone does you wrong, stop thinking f*** them, you did me dirty, and I\u2019m out for revenge.\u2019 It started being like, \u2018Step in their position.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHe added: \u201cIf we had done this talk three months ago, I might\u2019ve been like, \u2018F*** that person. I hope she hears this.’<\/p>\n
\nBut I\u2019m now just like, \u2018If I run into you? It\u2019s all love. I hope you\u2019re well.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\nMod Sun went on to date Love Is Blind star Brittany Wisniewski for five months late last year.<\/p>\n
