Tina Turner was worried her son Ronnie would follow in his abusive dad Ike Turner\u2019s footsteps<\/p>\n
Ronnie Turner\u2019s wife Afida Turner said Tina, whose death on 24 May is said to have been from \u201cnatural causes\u201d was so haunted by Ike\u2019s brutalities she warned her Ron \u201cis going to be like his father\u201d.<\/p>\n
She told the Daily Mail: \u201c(Tina) sometimes told me, \u2018You don\u2019t want to stay with him. He is going to be like his father.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Ike died of a drug overdose in 2007 aged 76 after years of tormenting Tina physically, verbally and mentally.<\/p>\n
His abuse was so severe it led to Tina trying to take her life in 1986 by swallowing 50 sleeping pills.<\/p>\n
\nFrench-born singer Afida added at the beginning of her relationship with Ronnie he did show signs of troubling behaviour.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cAt first, he was kind of like his father, but after that, he was going very well.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cHe made a very big effort to keep me. In the beginning, it was very hard because I was not willing to stay with him.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nRonnie, who had a history of drug-related arrests, was described by Afida as a \u201cheavy drinker\u201d when they first met, but said she had made him \u201cstop drinking and go to the gym,\u201d adding he was \u201cdoing very well\u201d before his death.<\/p>\n
\nRonnie died of complications from colon cancer months before his mother\u2019s passing aged 62.<\/p>\n
\nIke used to beat Tina with a shoe straightener as he didn\u2019t want to hurt his guitar-playing hand, and she thought he was cheating on her with up to 20 women at once who he called his \u201csister wives\u201d.<\/p>\n
\nTina also told how he subjected her to violent sex that felt more like rape.<\/p>\n
\nHer struggle to free herself of the abusive relationship was told in her \u2018What\u2019s Love Got to do With It\u2019, with Angela Bassett, 64, playing Tina and Laurence Fishburne, 61, the violent Ike.<\/p>\n
\nTowards the end of the film, Tina is seen declaring in court she doesn\u2019t want a penny from Ike \u2013 but demanding to keep her stage name.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
