But while Rumi, Mira and Zoey may have ended the film stronger than ever, not every mystery was solved \u2014 especially when it comes to Rumi\u2019s parents.<\/p>\n<p>One of the film\u2019s biggest twists reveals that Rumi is half-demon. Her mother, Mi-yeong Ryu, was a legendary demon hunter before her time with Huntr\/X, but we learn almost nothing about her past. And as for Rumi\u2019s father? Still MIA \u2014 not a name, not a flashback, not even a hint.<\/p>\n<p>While Rumi makes peace with her demonic side by the film\u2019s end, her family\u2019s story is begging to be told. A potential sequel or spinoff could explore the forbidden romance between her mother and the demon who stole her heart, plus give us a look at the original pop star hunter crew, the Sunlight Sisters.<\/p>\n<h2>So\u2026 who is Rumi\u2019s father?<\/h2>\n<p>We know he was a full-fledged demon when he met Mi-yeong, a hunter from the generation before Huntr\/X. \u201cSome fans theorize Gwi-ma might be Rumi\u2019s peepaw,\u201d one theory on Reddit suggests, \u201cbut he seems completely ignorant of her nature throughout the movie.\u201d Sure, he could theoretically shapeshift into a \u201csexy hunk\u201d like the Saja Boys, but his total lack of recognition toward Rumi makes that theory pretty shaky.<\/p>\n<h2>And what about Rumi\u2019s mother?<\/h2>\n<p>Mi-yeong\u2019s friendship with Celine \u2014 Rumi\u2019s mentor and caretaker \u2014 hints at some complicated history. \u201cEarly in K-Pop Demon Hunters\u2019 development, a concept that wound up being scrapped was that Celine would have secretly killed Rumi\u2019s mother,\u201d artist<strong> Simon Baek<\/strong> revealed. It\u2019s not canon, but it definitely adds drama to their relationship.<\/p>\n<p>A Netflix press release once claimed Mi-yeong died in childbirth, but the movie never confirms that.
