Seth Meyers<\/a> presenter of being \u201c100% anti-Trump\u201d and claimed that his coverage of the president \u201cmay be illegal\u201d. <\/p>\nSeth has now addressed the remarks during his show\u2019s monologue, aired on 3 November.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cThe President jeopardising food assistance for tens of millions of Americans matters. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cWhat matters far less is when the president posts about me, which he did over the weekend, saying, among other things, that I may be the \u2018least talented person to perform live in the history of television\u2019, calling me a \u2018deranged lunatic\u2019 and commenting that I \u2018talked endlessly about electric catapults on aircraft carriers\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe comedian continued: \u201cLook, in general, I try to live by the New Yorker\u2019s creed: when someone is ranting and raving about you, ignore them. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cChances are, they\u2019re just going to move on and rant about something else.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cBut there is one thing that I simply have to address. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cYou can say I\u2019m untalented, you can say I\u2019m deranged, but I\u2019m not the one who talks endlessly about catapults on aircraft carriers. You\u2019re the one who talks endlessly about catapults on aircraft carriers.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nSeth then played a compilation of clips showing Trump repeatedly discussing catapults on aircraft carriers during past speeches, drawing laughter from the audience.<\/p>\n
\nAfter the footage aired, Seth added: \u201cYou can say whatever you want about me, that is your First Amendment right, which I have too, right? We all have it? But how dare you say I talk endlessly about catapults.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHe also questioned inconsistencies in Trump\u2019s claims about when he last watched Late Night with Seth Meyers. <\/p>\n
\nSeth went on: \u201cYou wrote that you watched for the first time in years. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cBut just 10 months ago, you wrote, \u2018I got stuck watching Marble Mouth Myers the other night for the first time in months\u2019. First of all, \u2018stuck\u2019? <\/p>\n
\n\u201cI find it hard to believe you let other people decide what to put on. Everything about your vibe screams, \u2018I call the clicker\u2019. \u201cSecond, which is it? You watched me for the first time in years this week, or you watched for the first time in months in January?\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\u201cDo you not remember? Is that how you end up posting six times about a new bathroom? Did you just forget the first five times?<\/p>\n
\n\u201cTomorrow, by the way, I\u2019m probably going to wake up to a Trump post that says, \u2018Seth Meyers won\u2019t stop talking about the White House bathroom\u2019. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cBut also, like, who am I kidding? Who am I kidding? He\u2019s not going to watch two shows in a row.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nSeth ended the segment by acknowledging the absurdity of the exchange, saying: \u201cI say this with sincerity: I don\u2019t want to talk about catapults. I don\u2019t want to talk about bathrooms. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cAnd I\u2019m realising that I\u2019m starting to sound like a deranged lunatic. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cBut that\u2019s what you do to us. You make us talk about what you\u2019re talking about, and then we all sound crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n
