The 45-year-old actor, best known for playing quick-witted lad Kevin who outsmarts burglars in 1990 comedy Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992), is starring in a new \u201cHome But Not Alone\u201d campaign for Home Instead, a company providing in-home care for older adults. <\/p>\n
This time, the character of Kevin\u2019s focus is on keeping his mother, Kate McCallister, played again by 71-year-old Catherine O\u2019Hara, safe at home.<\/p>\n
In a series of newly-released clips released as part of the campaign, Macaulay reprises his character from the original films. The main ad opens with a hand-drawn map titled \u201cMom\u2019s Safety Plan\u201d, showing danger zones around the house and notes reminding Kevin to secure a carpet to prevent tripping, raise the toilet seat and install a stairlift.<\/p>\n
Kevin says in the video while wrapping outdoor decorations in bubble wrap: \u201cI\u2019m just worried about mom being by herself, y\u2019know? What if she falls down or gets snowed in? They never did catch that South Bay Shovel Slayer.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nHis conversation is interrupted by the sound of a shovel scraping the pavement, leading to an encounter with Old Man Marley\u2019s granddaughter \u2013 a nod to the original film\u2019s neighbour.<\/p>\n
\nShe asks him what he\u2019s doing and suggests a different approach, asking: \u201cHave you tried talking to her about getting a little help?\u201d <\/p>\n
\nShe adds: \u201cThe scariest part is starting that conversation. Then at least you\u2019ll know and can stop worrying about it. It\u2019s not easy, but how you feel about family is a complicated thing.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe campaign was directed by Jody Hill, who said about the ad campaign in a release shared with People: \u201cWe wanted to tell this story authentically, recognising that we all experience this moment with a loved one at some point. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cIt goes beyond holiday nostalgia to connect with Kevin McCallister years later \u2013 as he faces the same concerns many of us have as our parents age. It\u2019s real, it\u2019s funny, and it\u2019s deeply human.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe \u201cHome But Not Alone\u201d ads are set to air during broadcasts of Home Alone and other festive programming, as well as throughout college football coverage until 11 January.<\/p>\n
\nMacaulay filmed several additional clips for the project, including one re-creating a famous moment from the original movie in which Kevin\u2019s grocery bags split open on the street.<\/p>\n
\nDespite more than three decades since first playing the role, the actor said the connection between himself and Kevin remains strong \u2013\u00a0and is one now shared with his own family. <\/p>\n
\nIn December 2024, the father of two told E! News his four-year-old son, Dakota had begun confusing his own memories with scenes from the films.<\/p>\n
\nMacaulay said: \u201cHe thinks he\u2019s Kevin. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018Do you remember going down the stairs on the sled?\u2019 He\u2019s like, \u2018Mmhmm, yep. Sure do.\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018Do you remember when he had yellow hair?\u2019 And he\u2019s like, \u2018Uh-huh, yep\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nMacaulay added he responded by calling Dakota \u201ca lying liar who lies\u201d.<\/p>\n
