When Tiffany Haddish<\/strong><\/a> arrives to our interview, I greet her by saying, \u201cHi, Tiffany, how are you?\u201d She replies, \u201cSuccessful. How are you?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The answer is that I am not as successful as Haddish, 45, whose new Peacock<\/a> docuseries, Tiffany Haddish Goes Off<\/em><\/a> (November 13), is a Girls Trip<\/em><\/a>\u2013inspired delight that follows the comedian \u2014 who also executive produces \u2014 and three of her closest childhood friends on a monthlong trip to South Africa, Zimbabwe and Tanzania.<\/span><\/p>\n

I need not fret, though: \u201cYou woke up today, so you\u2019re winning,\u201d she reassures me. \u201cI\u2019m looking at that success.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Haddish first won over audiences as outrageous scene stealer Dina in 2017\u2019s Girls Trip<\/em> alongside Regina Hall<\/strong><\/a>, Jada Pinkett Smith<\/strong><\/a> and Queen Latifah<\/strong><\/a>. And although people tend to conflate Dina and Tiffany (we\u2019ve never looked at a grapefruit the same), there are many sides to this leading lady. Anyone who\u2019s read her memoirs, including the 2017 bestseller The Last Black Unicorn<\/em>, clocked her awards \u2014 she\u2019s already got the first two letters of an EGOT \u2014 or followed the work of her She Ready Foundation for kids in foster care already knows that. Everyone else is about to find out.<\/span><\/p>\n

Haddish was in the foster care system herself and works on multiple projects that deal with food insecurity and education, including an ongoing plan to open Diaspora Groceries<\/a>, an affordable market catering to BIPOC individuals, in her hometown of South Central L.A., where she still lives today.<\/span><\/p>\n

When I ask whether she thinks people know how multifaceted she is, she says, \u201cI think they just think I\u2019m a joke, and that\u2019s fine. I\u2019m not doing it so everybody knows Tiffany does these nice things. I\u2019m doing what I do because I see the necessity for relief.\u201d That\u2019s also her approach to comedy. \u201cLaugh and get that stuff out of your body,\u201d she says. \u201cHelp heal your organs.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

What made you want to bring your lifelong friends \u2014 sisters Shermona Long and Sparkle Clark, and Selena Martin \u2014 along for the ride on Tiffany Haddish Goes Off<\/em>, as opposed to some of your newer Hollywood friends?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

They deserve a trip like that because they\u2019ve been good friends all these years. Your friends deserve awards; like, give them some kind of a treat for being a good friend\u2026 Why would I take my newer friends? They haven\u2019t even earned it. These new people, they\u2019re all shiny and s***. Take yourself to Africa, shiny new friend. I want to go with my little rusty-dusties over here. All of us have seen each other at our worst and have picked each other up. I know I can depend on these people. I don\u2019t know about these new shiny people.<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the beautiful things about the show is cultural representation we don\u2019t always get to see, like watching you get your hair braided and seeing strong Black women in different bodies on the beach.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

I know. That\u2019s what we are, yeah? This is the real deal. I\u2019m excited about that. We want our hair braided. We want to show [that] on camera. We\u2019re gonna be in some <\/span>swimming suits on the beach and by the pool and all of that. Why? Because that\u2019s <\/span>what\u2019s real. That\u2019s what we really do.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tTiffany Haddish is not shutting down the idea of having a baby anytime soon. Haddish, 45, exclusively spoke with Us Weekly on Tuesday, October 28, at the 2025 PAC NYC ICONS of CULTURE Gala at the Perelman Performing Arts Center in New York. The comedian and actress told Us about the baby \u201cagreement\u201d she has [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Something that impressed me is your willingness to show low moments, like a stand-up set in Cape Town that didn\u2019t go great, or backlash to a social media post you made about African grocery stores.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Oh my God, I didn\u2019t even know that stuff was in there. <\/span><\/p>\n

I can\u2019t tell if you\u2019re pulling my leg.<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n

I had no idea. I thought I killed it in that comedy show; they were standing up and clapping for me\u2026 So they made it look like I bombed?<\/span><\/p>\n

It doesn\u2019t look like you bombed.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Well, that\u2019s life. I didn\u2019t bomb, though.<\/span><\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t say bomb! You said bomb!<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m not afraid to show the weaker parts or the things that might make somebody be like, \u201cOh, that looks bad on you.\u201d Whatever, I\u2019m learning.<\/span><\/p>\n

The vulnerable parts.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Vulnerable is weak \u2014 that\u2019s what they say, but it\u2019s not true.<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s not.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

The drama with the grocery store in Africa and everybody kind of attacking \u2014 did I not get everybody to talk about that? And you started to learn there\u2019s a lot of Americans out here that think the way people thought I was thinking. [In July 2024 and documented on the show, Haddish uploaded a TikTok from a grocery store in Zimbabwe to highlight perceived misconceptions about Africa. Some found it offensive; others commended it.]<\/i> [Conversely] Africans all think we are gang bangers and murderers over here, like Black people [are] all about poverty, shooting, killing each other, war all the time. That\u2019s what they think of us all over the world, as a matter of fact. They think all the Black people here is just mean, vicious and nasty, just trying to get over on y\u2019all, just trying to hurt somebody\u2026 And it ain\u2019t us shooting all the time. Statistically, it ain\u2019t.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the beginning of the show, you\u2019re trying to find a man, but you end up more interested in self-discovery. You even marry yourself. How is the marriage going?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s going good. I\u2019ve been honoring me. It\u2019s been really fun. When guys have <\/span>been hitting on me that I\u2019m not really interested in at all, I\u2019m like, \u201cI\u2019m sorry, I\u2019m in a committed relationship.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tTiffany Haddish has been candid about her desire to have kids over the years. In November 2020, Haddish, who was then dating Common, shared that she wanted to either \u201cfoster\u201d or \u201cadopt\u201d kids. \u201cI just want to bring to them survival skills, share everything that I know with them,\u201d she explained on Common\u2019s podcast \u201cMind [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Earlier this year, you said you were dating a roster of guys who knew about each other. Where\u2019s your head at with dating now?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

I just realized it\u2019s a lot of energy. I don\u2019t care about these dudes at all. None of <\/span>them tickle my fancy where I want to spend any real amount of time with them. Let\u2019s go have a fun experience, and then I want to go home. Three hours <\/span>maybe, four max. Like, I don\u2019t want to hear your voice. I don\u2019t know what I\u2019m <\/span>becoming, but I think it\u2019s gonna be by myself. Maybe I\u2019m tripping, I don\u2019t know. They need to add something to the table that\u2019s necessary and not exhausting\u2026 I\u2019ll <\/span>see a guy and be like, \u201cOh, he\u2019s beautiful. Yes, I\u2019m gonna hang out with him.\u201d And <\/span>then we\u2019re hanging out, and the more he talks, the more I\u2019m like, \u201cYeah, you ugly, <\/span>man. Why don\u2019t you just shut the f*** up and be pretty?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

You have so much stuff going on professionally: There\u2019s this show coming out. You\u2019re still on your Funny and Fearless comedy tour. You have all these new projects that you\u2019re acting in, and you\u2019re producing. Your fourth book came out in 2024. Is that your first love, working?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Not working, creating. Creating is my first love. Being able to create some joy, <\/span>opportunities, jobs. Bringing joy to people right now is not nothing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When we started talking, you said that just getting out of bed is winning, and that\u2019s always true, but it\u2019s super true right now.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Super true right now! Yeah, every time you wake up, that\u2019s a win; that\u2019s the second chance to be better than you was yesterday. This is an opportunity to just create or do or be, or whatever you desire, because we have freedom of will. I\u2019m desiring to share time with you today, and I\u2019m gonna wash some dishes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Do you really want to wash the dishes?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Yes, I do. And I\u2019m gonna go to the foot doctor and let him look at my little toe next to my pinkie.<\/span><\/p>\n

So a good day for the doctor too!<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

He gets to see my shrimps.<\/span><\/p>\n

You have endometriosis, and there\u2019s a bit in your stand-up when you say that if men got their period, health care would be different.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Very different. There\u2019d be a cure. Your period would only last one day. It would be no pain. They would fix it.<\/span><\/p>\n

And tampons wouldn\u2019t be taxed.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

They would come up with some brand-new innovation so they don\u2019t even need tampons. Some kind of suction thing, some kind of freaky device that would suck on the tip of their thing. They will figure out something where it feels good. They\u2019re men, that\u2019s what they do. \u201cLet those women suffer over there. They\u2019re built for it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

We are kind of built for it.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

We are. But what do they got nipples for? Let\u2019s put those nipples to use. Let\u2019s play with their reproductive system like they want to play with ours, OK? They\u2019ve been playing with women\u2019s reproductive systems for hundreds and hundreds of years. They sterilized all them women in Africa, sterilized a bunch of Native American women here in America. You keep playing with our coochies, let\u2019s play <\/span>with your titties, sir. Let\u2019s get them titties leaking. That\u2019s how I feel. But maybe I\u2019m crazy.<\/span><\/p>\n

I think millions of women in this country are the same kind of crazy right now.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Because we see it. You know, the internet has been a blessing and a curse. It allows you to see certain things, and then you have to take everything you see with a grain of salt, because you don\u2019t know how technically manipulated this information is or how many hands it\u2019s filtered through before it got to you. But I do know what I see with my own eyes when I\u2019m out here in the world\u2026 I\u2019ll be going to scientists\u2019 [offices] and asking questions, going to these universities doing all these studies. I\u2019m in your town anyway, might as well go to your little science department where y\u2019all are doing all these studies.<\/span><\/p>\n

Do you actually do that?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Yes, girl, my coochie hurt! I need to know why. I want to meet the people that study this.<\/span><\/p>\n

Give me an example. You\u2019re in a town \u2014 where are you going?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m going to the research center at the university. They\u2019re doing some studies over here at the University of Southern California on reproductive organs. They were looking for some grants and stuff. I said, Well, if they\u2019re studying it, let me go ask some questions. Maybe they got some resources on how to keep me from hurting so bad.<\/span><\/p>\n

Oh my gosh, what happened?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n
