Netflix\u2019s cowboy hit Ransom Canyon<\/em> has finally been renewed for a second season \u2014 but not every cast member is coming back.<\/p>\n

Based on Jodi Thomas<\/strong>\u2018 book series of the same name<\/a>, Ransom Canyon<\/em> introduced Us<\/em> to a town full of drama, romance and hope. The first season kicked off with stoic rancher Staten (Josh Duhamel<\/strong>) grieving two major losses while navigating an undeniable connection to childhood friend Quinn (Minka Kelly<\/strong>), who has also caught the eye of Staten\u2019s brother-in-law and rival Davis (Eoin Macken<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

There was also newcomer Yancy (Jack Schumacher<\/strong>), who had a past he was hiding from Ellie (Marianly Tejada<\/strong>). And if that wasn\u2019t enough, viewers found themselves invested in another love triangle between high school students Lucas (Garrett Wareing<\/strong>), Lauren (Lizzy<\/strong> Greene<\/strong>) and Reid (Andrew Liner<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

Season 1 left many questions unanswered and luckily fans can look forward to new episodes now that Netflix officially greenlit a second season.<\/a><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tRansom Canyon has finally been renewed for season 2 \u2014 and there have already been teases about possible love triangle outcomes, spinoff plans and more. Based on Jodi Thomas\u2018 book series of the same name, Ransom Canyon introduced Us to a town full of drama, romance and hope. The first season kicked off with stoic [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve already started the writers room, even though the show hasn\u2019t been picked up to series yet for season 2,\u201d creator April Blair<\/strong> told TV Insider<\/em> in April 2025 about their plans for season 2. \u201cQuinn\u2019s going to go off to New York and come back. How is [Staten] going to win her back if he\u2019s still haunted? I don\u2019t feel like he could ever truly move on in his heart and his mind until that mystery [about his son\u2019s death] was settled.\u201d<\/p>\n

Blair confirmed that the revelations in the finale will affect the direction<\/a> of season 2. \u201cWe wanted to find some closure with that, and also, who was behind it and what really happened opens up a whole new series of relationship drama between Lucas and Lauren,\u201d Blair said. \u201cSo it gives us a lot of runway in other stories as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI know that they\u2019ve been writing,\u201d Duhamel exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> in June shortly before the show was renewed. \u201cThey\u2019ve been in the writer\u2019s room now for several months writing the second season. April Blair does an amazing job with running the show so I\u2019d imagine they\u2019re coming up with something fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

Duhamel, who is expected to return, praised the show\u2019s direction<\/a>. \u201cI think the romance stuff [with Kelly\u2019s character Quinn] is really fun, but I want to keep it unpredictable. A little bit dangerous at times; doing things that the audience may not always agree with,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

While Kelly is reprising her role, fans won\u2019t see Quinn\u2019s time in New York.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe would need to because I don\u2019t want to do anything in New York,\u201d Blair shared with TV Line<\/em> in April 2025. \u201cQuinn needs to go away and save her ranch, and we need to see what the implications are for that punch that Davis goads Staten into doing and what that plot between Davis and Staten\u2019s father, the senator, is like.\u201d<\/p>\n

She concluded: \u201cI think we would probably do that because she says, \u2018I\u2019m going to go away for six months.\u2019 So the idea right now, although nothing\u2019s set in stone, is that we would do at least a six-month time jump.\u201d<\/p>\n

It wouldn\u2019t be a love triangle if Macken didn\u2019t return as Davies but apparently the role was a hot commodity in Hollywood. Wilson Bethel<\/strong> revealed to Us<\/em> in July 2025 that he tried out for the part, adding, \u201cI tried out for the other guy in the love triangle [with Minka and Josh Duhamel]. Look, I never say never [to another cameo]. I\u2019m psyched for them. That show obviously has been met with a lot of success and who knows what the future holds [about booking another role in season 2].\u201d<\/p>\n

News broke in September 2025 that Macken wasn\u2019t returning as a series regular.<\/p>\n

Coming off Lucas and Lauren\u2019s happy ending in season 2, Greene teased to Us<\/em> that nothing is off the table in the future.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cThings are set up where everyone is in a love triangle in season 1 because it opens the door for the audience to say what they like,\u201d she teased about the show. \u201cThen also hopefully we get another season. It gives our writers and everyone an opportunity to see what people like and then lean into it more season 2.\u201d<\/p>\n

Greene sounded hopeful about where Lucas, Lauren and Reid are headed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is still a lot of love there and a lot of care for each other. That is kind of where everyone sits [because] there\u2019s no animosity toward anybody. Everyone loves and cares about everyone,\u201d she shared. \u201cThat\u2019s why it ends up so well is because while they are butting heads in the beginning, they both really admire each other.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wareing also showed his support for Lucas and Lauren<\/a>, telling Us<\/em> in April 2025, \u201cWe saw Lucas and Lauren very happy in season 1. What does it look like when we don\u2019t see them happy and when we are facing real world hardship? And what does it look like to feel that pull and come back together?\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cLucas is looking to explore [life outside of Ransom Canyon] but is it worth exploring without the love of his life? That\u2019s a question that we\u2019re going to have to answer in season 2 \u2014 if we\u2019re lucky. Lucas loves Lauren so much that his dream wouldn\u2019t be complete without her.\u201d<\/p>\n

When we were last in Ransom Canyon<\/em>, Ellie was getting ready to get married to Yancy before his wife (played by Erica Dasher<\/strong> of Jane by Design<\/em> fame) showed up.<\/p>\n

\u201cA fun tidbit nobody knows, is that the girl who played the back of Yancy\u2019s wife\u2019s head was actually the star of my very first show, Jane by Design that was on ABC Family at the time. That was Erica Dasher, and she was just there to visit and I said, \u2018Will you, will you be the back of his wife\u2019s head? And she\u2019s like, \u2018I will if you let me audition for her,\u2019\u201d Blair told Deadline<\/em> in April 2025 about how that will unfold. \u201cSo we don\u2019t know [who will play her] yet. Obviously it\u2019ll be a brunette, but it\u2019s a fun, now that we\u2019re in the room on season 2, it\u2019s a very fun character that\u2019s shaping up and a very juicy backstory.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yancy\u2019s personal life was one of the major cliffhangers at the end of the season so chances are high that it will be explored further. Schumacher previously gushed about the chance to join Ransom Canyon<\/em> as a fan of Westerns.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cThe show has been described as somewhere between Yellowstone and Virgin River. That\u2019s a very accurate description of it. But the great thing about that is it leans into the romance more. It exists on its own,\u201d he shared with Us<\/em> in April 2025. \u201cWhat creator April and Netflix were trying to do is create something that isn\u2019t a knockoff of this. It is something that exists on its own \u2014 in its own world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Schumacher specifically highlighted how the show prioritizes romance.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe female gaze is more present here, which you don\u2019t get in the vast majority of westerns and I\u2019m a huge fan of the genre,\u201d he explained. \u201cNowadays you have to be living under a rock not to know about Yellowstone and all the spinoffs. They\u2019re so great. Then you have the more romantic side of it, which is shows like Virgin River.\u201d<\/p>\n

Liner teased that Reid might go off the deep end in season 2, telling Us<\/em> in April 2025, \u201cHe should have never gone against his family. He was trying to do the right thing and he\u2019s figuring out what is right for him. He\u2019s constantly in this battle of what is good.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cI think that the most interesting stuff is going to be with his dad, with his mom and figuring out that world. Because we don\u2019t get to see much of it in season 1 \u2014 even though it\u2019s discussed a lot and we get to see glimpses. I am very fascinated with that.\u201d<\/p>\n

After production on season 2 began, news broke about Liner\u2019s exit.<\/p>\n
