Nearly three months after\u00a0Sweet Magnolias<\/a>\u00a0<\/i>debuted its cliffhanger-laden season 2 finale, Netflix announced its renewal<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re going back to Serenity, y\u2019all!\u00a0\ud83c\udf38<\/span>\u00a0We are so thrilled to share we have a Season 3<\/a> of Sweet Magnolias<\/em>. Can\u2019t wait to welcome y\u2019all home,\u00a0\ud83c\udf38<\/span>\u201d the series\u2019 official Instagram<\/a> account wrote in May 2022.<\/p>\n Sweet Magnolias\u00a0<\/i>became an instant hit on the streaming platform following its May 2020 premiere<\/a>. Based on Sherryl Woods<\/strong>\u2019 book series of the same name<\/a>, the Netflix drama follows three childhood best friends in small-town South Carolina as their lasting bond guides them through adulthood, romance, career and parenthood. JoAnna Garcia Swisher<\/strong><\/a>, Brooke Elliott<\/strong><\/a> and Heather Headley<\/strong> star as besties Maddie Townsend, Dana Sue Sullivan and Helen Decatur, respectively.<\/p>\n Season 2 answered many fans\u2019 burning questions about the previous season<\/a> before dropping even more bombshell surprises.<\/p>\n \u201cI was, like,\u00a0left with cliffhangers. I was like, \u2018Oh, my God,\u2019\u201d the\u00a0Drop Dead Diva<\/i><\/a>\u00a0alum exclusively told\u00a0Us Weekly\u00a0<\/i>in February 2022<\/a> ahead of the season 2 premiere. \u201cI was really in it with everybody else. Oh, I hope everyone else will be in it just as much. I can\u2019t imagine they wouldn\u2019t. It\u2019s so good.\u201d<\/p>\n While Elliott\u2019s character, Dana Sue, eventually reconciled with estranged husband Ronnie<\/a> (played by Brandon Quinn<\/strong>), the season\u2019s bigger mystery divulged the paternity of her employee Isaac (Chris Medlin<\/strong>). Isaac enlisted lawyer Helen (Headley) to help search for his birth parents, which eventually led them to newspaper editor Peggy (Brittany L. Smith<\/strong>). After a one-night stand at a model UN conference, Peggy gave Isaac up for adoption when she was a teenager. In the finale, viewers learned that Maddie\u2019s ex-husband, Bill Townsend (Chris Klein<\/strong><\/a>), is the father.<\/p>\n \u201cI think that she has really made her decision and put it to rest,\u201d Swisher exclusively told\u00a0Us\u00a0<\/i>of the paternity shocker. \u201cI think that this season, in particular, there is no turning back, and I think that offers an opportunity for Bill to kind of explore \u2014 like, go find yourself, Bill, turn this ship around. Because if there was that nagging sort of, like, possible forgiveness, I don\u2019t think it would lend itself to that growth.
