The 35-year-old actress and model attended The Cursed Amulet\u2019s Halloween party wearing a costume inspired by the iconic pink suit worn by the former First Lady on 22 November 1963 \u2013 the day her husband was shot and killed while riding in a motorcade.<\/p>\n
Julia wore a pink suit and matching pillbox hat, mirroring Jackie\u2019s double-breasted wool ensemble. <\/p>\n
She paired the look with white gloves, a short black wig, and a black handbag. <\/p>\n
The outfit appeared splattered with fake blood. <\/p>\n
\nThe Uncut Gems star later shared images of her costume on her Instagram Stories.<\/p>\n
\nJackie\u2019s original pink suit became one of the most recognisable images of the tragic day JFK was gunned down. <\/p>\n
\nAccording to The New York Times, her suit, shoes, handbag and stockings were \u201cblood-covered and folded in a towel\u201d after the shooting. <\/p>\n
\nThe blood-stained items were never cleaned and remain preserved at the National Archives and Records Administration facility in Maryland.<\/p>\n
\nThe Los Angeles Times reported Jackie\u2019s maid, Providencia Paredes, placed the outfit in a bag and sent it to the archives sometime before July 1964.<\/p>\n
\nIn the hours after the assassination, Jackie was photographed wearing the same suit while standing beside Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson as he was sworn in as president aboard Air Force One.<\/p>\n
\nHistorian Steve Gillon told People magazine in November 2022: \u201cThey actually had another dress laid out for her to put on and she refused. She went out in her blood-stained suit and stood next to Lyndon Johnson. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cDespite these horrible circumstances, she was willing to stand for a photo because she understood what it meant for the nation to have continuity in government. She understood that she had a role to play in helping the nation transition to a new president.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nJackie had worn the two-piece suit on at least six previous occasions before her husband\u2019s assassination, according to The New York Times. <\/p>\n
\nThe suit itself was a Chanel-approved copy made by the New York fashion house Chez Ninon.<\/p>\n
\nThe assassination of John F. Kennedy, who was 46, remains one of the most defining events of the 20th century. <\/p>\n
\nIn her diary, Lady Bird Johnson \u2013\u00a0the wife of Lyndon B. Johnson \u2013 described the moment she saw Jackie cradling her husband\u2019s body in the motorcade. <\/p>\n
\nShe wrote: \u201cAs we ground to a halt \u2013\u00a0we were still the third car\u2026 I cast one last look over my shoulder and saw in the President\u2019s car a bundle of pink, just like a drift of blossoms, lying in the back seat. It was Mrs. Kennedy lying over the President\u2019s body.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cMrs. Kennedy\u2019s dress was stained with blood. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cOne leg was almost entirely covered with it and her right glove was caked, it was caked with blood \u2014 her husband\u2019s blood.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nJulia\u2019s Halloween costume came just weeks before the 62nd anniversary of Kennedy\u2019s death and has seen her face a huge backlash online over the outfit choice.<\/p>\n
\nOne of her many critics said online: \u201cSo tasteless. Tragedy is not a costume.\u201d<\/p>\n
