Jesse Williams<\/strong><\/a>\u2018 highly anticipated return to Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/em><\/a> had Jackson and Meredith at odds before Ellen Pompeo<\/strong><\/a> left Grey Sloan Memorial \u2014 again.<\/p>\n

During the Thursday, October 30, episode of the hit ABC series, Jackson (Williams) was back at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital to help with a reconstructive surgery. His first interaction with Meredith (Pompeo) was far from perfect after she saw Tom Koracick\u2019s (Greg Germann<\/strong>) published paper about Alzheimer\u2019s research.<\/p>\n

Meredith pointed out that Koracick\u2019s work didn\u2019t factor in female patients, but Jackson fired back at her criticism of his mentor. Ultimately, Jackson needed Meredith\u2019s help with his procedure, so they had to scrub in together after their confrontation.<\/p>\n

By the end of the episode, Jackson and Meredith found common ground<\/a>. Meredith also realized she needed to continue her research, which meant she could no longer be as present at the hospital as she was right after the explosion that kicked off season 22.<\/p>\n

Pompeo, 55, began playing Meredith in 2005 when Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/em> premiered on ABC. After hinting at her exit for years, Pompeo confirmed in September 2022 that she would have a reduced role for season 19.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to always be a part of that show,\u201d she told Deadline at the time. \u201cI\u2019m an executive producer. I spent two decades of my career on [Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/em>] \u2014 it\u2019s my heart and soul. I\u2019ll never truly be gone as long as [it\u2019s] on the air.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actress starred in eight episodes<\/a> that season before exiting the show as a series regular in 2023. \u201cI\u2019m only going to Boston, and you know, I\u2019ll probably be here next week,\u201d Meredith told her friends and coworkers before boarding a plane with her three children.<\/p>\n

Pompeo is expected to be featured on screen for at least seven episodes this season, appearing in the first four so far. Deadline<\/em> reported that Pompeo\u2019s screen time could \u201cgrow\u201d with the season planning to air 18 total episodes.<\/p>\n

Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/em> is already reducing the minimum guarantees for its veteran cast members to 14 out of the show\u2019s 18 episodes per season. While some fan favorites won\u2019t appear in as many as four episodes each, Caterina Scorsone<\/strong>\u2018s absence was doubled<\/a> after her character, Amelia, chose to take a sabbatical. Deadline<\/em> subsequently reported that Scorsone\u2019s break will last until 2026.<\/p>\n
