Scott Clifton<\/strong> revealed he was prepared for The Bold and the Beautiful<\/em><\/a> to kill off his character, William \u201cLiam\u201d Spencer III, before the writers shocked him and viewers with an epic comeback twist.<\/p>\n

Clifton, who has played Liam on the show since 2010, told Soap Opera Digest<\/em><\/a> on Wednesday, October 29, that executive producer and head writer Bradley Bell warned him that Liam was going to die this season \u2014 but it never came to fruition.<\/p>\n

\u201cBrad was really honest and generous with me and we had a conversation where he told me he felt that Liam had been written into a corner,\u201d Clifton, 40, recalled. \u201cHe said, \u2018Liam has gotten married and divorced so many times and he\u2019s sort of ping-ponged back and forth between these two women<\/a> [Hope and Steffy] so many times and I don\u2019t know where to go from here. But please know that I still value you as an employee and an actor.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The actor confessed he\u2019d been \u201cworried\u201d about his story line \u201cfor at least the last decade,\u201d noting that Liam going back and forth between Hope (Annika Noelle<\/strong>) and Steffy (MacInnes Wood<\/strong>) made him \u201cmore unlikable\u201d every season.<\/p>\n

Clifton said he \u201ctotally got\u201d where Bell was coming from since he felt like Liam \u201cnever\u201d learned his lesson while juggling his two love interests.<\/p>\n

So when Bell informed Clifton that Liam would have an inoperable brain tumor<\/a> to end his character\u2019s time on The Bold and the Beautiful, the actor wasn\u2019t surprised.<\/p>\n

\u201cBrad was kind enough to call me into his office and sit me down and have a whole conversation with me about why he was [killing Liam off],\u201d Clifton remembered. \u201cHe was a total prince about it. He was like, \u2018I love working with you and you\u2019re an asset to the show, but I\u2019ve figured out what I want to do with Liam.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Clifton, Bell planned to give Liam a \u201creally poignant send-off,\u201d and he began to prepare for his swan song on the show.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had every reason to believe that they really were going to kill me off on the show,\u201d Clifton mused. \u201cIt was a very real conversation that I had with Brad \u2014 I really was supposed to kick the old soap opera bucket.\u201d<\/p>\n

Liam, however, didn\u2019t die. Instead, it was revealed in July that Dr. Grace Buckingham (Cassandra Creech<\/strong>) faked Liam\u2019s brain scan to extort millions from his father, Bill Spencer (Don Diamont<\/strong>). Bill paid for Liam\u2019s experimental treatment and Grace\u2019s plan was exposed after a deranged Luna Nozawa (Lisa Yamada<\/strong>) shot Liam. (Grace wanted the money to pay off her ex\u2019s gambling debt.)<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know exactly what it was that changed his mind<\/a>,\u201d Clifton told the outlet of Bell\u2019s switch in the script. \u201cBut I got a phone call at home from Mr. Bell and he said, \u2018You know what? I changed my mind. I\u2019m going to figure out a way to [spare Liam]. I have this idea, and it has to do with Luna and tying these two different storylines together. I think I\u2019m going to shoot you.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Bell proceeded to tell Clifton that Liam would get shot, but would survive. Clifton, however, confessed he was skeptical about his comeback.<\/p>\n
