Jennifer Lawrence<\/strong><\/a> is looking back at her early fame with a little cringe.<\/p>\n

The Oscar-winning actress opened up about her chaotic press tour era in a new New Yorker<\/em> profile, admitting that the interviews that once made her Hollywood\u2019s \u201crelatable girl next door\u201d were actually masking something deeper.<\/p>\n

\u201cA few years ago, I told Viola Davis<\/strong>, \u2018Every time I do an interview, I think, I can\u2019t do this to myself again,\u2019\u201d Jennifer recalled. \u201cI feel like I lose so much control over my craft when I have to do press for a movie.\u201d<\/p>\n

She explained that while her offbeat, unfiltered personality was real, it was also a form of self-protection. \u201cWell, it is, or it was, my genuine personality, but it was also a defense mechanism,\u201d she said. \u201cTo just be, like, \u2018I\u2019m not like that! I poop my pants every day!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Jennifer laughed that even she now finds those old clips painful to watch. \u201cI look at those interviews, and that person is annoying,\u201d she admitted. \u201cI get why seeing that person everywhere would be annoying. Ariana Grande<\/strong>\u2019s impression of me on SNL<\/em> was spot-on.\u201d<\/p>\n

Grande famously mocked Jennifer\u2019s over-the-top relatability in a 2018 Saturday Night Live<\/em> skit, pretending to eat a full can of Pringles while boasting about being \u201cso quirky.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reflecting on that era, Jennifer said her personality may have even cost her roles. \u201cI felt like I was being rejected from roles for my personality,\u201d she confessed.<\/p>\n

During the height of her fame, countless viral YouTube compilations highlighted her goofy interviews, Oscars trip and red carpet antics. But now, at 35, the Silver Linings Playbook<\/em> star is taking a calmer, more self-assured approach to her career.<\/p>\n

After taking several years off from acting, Jennifer is back in the spotlight promoting her new movie with Robert Pattinson<\/strong>, Die, My Love<\/em>. The break, she said, helped her reset after the world\u2014and she herself\u2014grew tired of her image.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just think everybody had gotten sick of me,\u201d she told Vanity Fair<\/em> in 2021. \u201cI\u2019d gotten sick of me. It had just gotten to a point where I couldn\u2019t do anything right\u2026 I think that I was people-pleasing for the majority of my life. Working made me feel like nobody could be mad at me\u2026 And then I felt like I reached a point where people were not pleased just by my existence.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cThat kind of shook me out of thinking that work or your career can bring any kind of peace to your soul.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
