UPDATE \u2014 10\/27\/25, 9:35 a.m. ET: <\/b>The New York Giants issued an update about rookie running back Cam Skattebo<\/strong> after he suffered a frightening injury against the Philadelphia Eagles.<\/span><\/p>\n

The team announced<\/a> that Skattebo, 23, underwent surgery at a local hospital in the Philadelphia area on Sunday, October 26, for a dislocated ankle. The injury happened earlier in the day when the Giants and Eagles squared off at Philadelphia\u2019s Lincoln Financial Field.<\/span><\/p>\n

Skattebo\u2019s surgery means that the Giants star is done for the season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf all is good and clean and the surgery went as well as everyone believes, he should be back with no issues for next year,\u201d NFL insider Ian Rapoport<\/strong> said on Monday, October 27<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s a gruesome injury, but the recovery is actually not as bad.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Skattebo, who was in the midst of a star-making season, broke his silence about the injury on Monday morning.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The running back reposted a video via Instagram<\/a> of his Giants teammates discussing the impact of Skattebo\u2019s injury after the game with the caption: \u201cMy guys love tall boys \u2764\ufe0f.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

New York Giants rookie and breakout star Cam Skattebo<\/strong> was carted off the field after suffering a serious ankle injury during the second quarter against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, October 26.<\/p>\n

The rookie tried to catch a pass on a 2nd down and 16 play, but got twisted around while getting tackled. As a result, his ankle got stuck between the field and Zack Baun<\/strong>, the Eagles linebacker who was making the tackle.<\/p>\n

As Skattebo, 23, was sitting on the field after the play, teammates immediately called for medical help. His right ankle was sitting out of place, turned all the way to the right.<\/p>\n

The medical cart came onto the field as Skattebo\u2019s ankle was put into an aircast and he was taken off the field. Teammates greeted Skattebo as he was being driven off the field and he was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe New York Giants have a new fan favorite in their backfield and his name is Cam Skattebo. Skattebo hails from Rio Linda, California, and was drafted by the New York Giants in the fourth round (105th overall) of the 2025 NFL Draft from Arizona State. Known for his bruising style and fearless attitude, Skattebo [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Skattebo waved to the crowd at Lincoln Financial Field, which gave him a standing ovation, as he was escorted off the field for immediate medical care.<\/p>\n

According to ESPN\u2019s Adam Schefter<\/strong>, Skattebo suffered a dislocated ankle<\/a> and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.<\/p>\n

The extent of his injury has yet to be determined.<\/p>\n

\u201cFeel absolutely terrible for the young man,\u201d Giants head coach Brian Daboll<\/strong> told reporters after the game. \u201cObviously I saw it. It looked bad. You feel for anybody on your team that goes down and has a really bad injury. And I feel, and I know the players feel the same way about Skat.\u201d<\/p>\n

Skattebo\u2019s teammates showed him support as he was getting medical help on the field, although some had to turn away from the gruesome injury.<\/p>\n

Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart<\/strong>, with whom Skattebo has built a strong connection with over the last few weeks, was clearly upset by the injury. Immediately after the game was stopped, as soon as Dart realized the extent of the injury, he turned away, screaming expletives and taking a knee out of respect for his teammate.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was devastated,\u201d Dart told reporters after the game. \u201cThat\u2019s my boy. Seeing him go down and reacting to what happened, it just sucks. It\u2019s the worst part of this game.\u201d<\/p>\n

As Skattebo was being carted off, Dart made sure to give his teammate one of their signature headbutt handshakes that the two do regularly in celebration.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know [Dart] is close with Skat,\u201d Daboll said. \u201cI know that watching Skat go down like that and the injury that he had, that\u2019s tough on everybody involved.<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cIt\u2019s a contact sport, and unfortunately there\u2019s injury.\u201d<\/p>\n

Skattebo and Dart have been two of the most electric rookies in the league as of late. Despite a 2-6 start to the season, the two have shown fire on the field together since they both took over starting roles mid-season.<\/p>\n
