All eyes were on Colleen Hoover<\/strong>\u2019s second film adaptation<\/a>, Regretting You<\/i>, amid the ongoing legal battle between It Ends With Us <\/i>stars Blake Lively<\/strong> and Justin Baldoni<\/strong> \u2014 but the new stars weren\u2019t bothered.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just a vastly different vibe and topics,\u201d Mason Thames<\/strong>, who plays Miller Adams, told Entertainment Weekly <\/i><\/a>in an interview published on Saturday, October 25, of the environment on set of the upcoming film.<\/p>\n

Hoover, 45, published Regretting You <\/i><\/a>in 2019, centered around teenager Clara (McKenna Grace<\/strong>) and her mother, Morgan (Allison Williams<\/strong>) as they navigate the death of Clara\u2019s father (Scott Eastwood<\/strong>). Their loss and the immediate aftermath ultimately lead to the unraveling of even more family secrets. At the same time, Clara finds love with Miller (Thames).<\/p>\n

Regretting You <\/i>is Hoover\u2019s second novel to be adapted for the big screen, following 2016\u2019s It Ends With Us. <\/i>The film version was released in August 2024, in which Lively, 38, and Baldoni, 41, played a couple in an abusive relationship. After filming wrapped, Lively named Baldoni in a lawsuit<\/a>, accusing him of sexual harassment, fostering a hostile work environment and attempting to ruin her reputation.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tMcKenna Grace is ready to bring Colleen Hoover\u2019s emotional book, Regretting You, to the big screen. \u201cIt\u2019s a rough story,\u201d Grace, 18, exclusively told Us Weekly at iHeartRadio 102.7 KIIS FM\u2019s Jingle Ball on Friday, December 6. \u201cIt\u2019s about grief and a girl who loses her father and then a mom who loses her husband. [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Baldoni, who also directed It Ends With Us<\/i>, vehemently denied the accusations before filing a $400 million defamation suit against Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds<\/strong>. The married couple denied Baldoni\u2019s allegations before the case was dismissed<\/a> in May. Lively\u2019s suit, meanwhile, is still ongoing.<\/p>\n

Grace, 19, Thames, 18, and the rest of the Regretting You <\/i>cast began filming amid the legal back-and-forth.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a completely different film, different everything,\u201d Grace stressed to EW<\/i>. \u201cI think that we just went into it making a film as we normally would, and trying to make the best film we could outside of any other [influences].\u201d<\/p>\n

Grace further revealed that she first bonded with Thames by hitting up a screening of It Ends With Us.<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/i>When Mason and I first met, we went and saw that film,\u201d the Handmaid\u2019s Tale <\/i>alum told the outlet. \u201cWe wanted to go and prepare for this.\u201d<\/p>\n

In regards to tackling the role of Clara<\/a> in director Josh Boone<\/strong>\u2019s adaptation of Regretting You, <\/i>Grace did turn to Hoover\u2019s novel in itself.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t know that it was a book when I first read the script, but then afterwards, I read the book like a hundred times over by the time all of this was said and done,\u201d she recalled. \u201cI very much had my entire book highlighted and noted to the seams months prior to shooting.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Grace\u2019s preparation, she hopes audiences recognize her character\u2019s authenticity.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAndy Cohen mentioned Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni\u2019s ongoing legal battle while speaking with another star of a Colleen Hoover big-screen adaptation, Regretting You\u2019s Allison Williams. \u201cDid you read Regretting You, the book, before you shot the movie?\u201d Cohen, 57, asked Williams, 37, during the Tuesday, October 21, broadcast of his Watch What Happens Live [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI was like, \u2018I hope she\u2019s not too unlikable with all the mistakes that she makes,\u2019\u201d Grace explained of her inner monologue during production. \u201cBut then I was watching it and I was like, honestly, she\u2019s just a very human character. She\u2019s very broken and kind of lost, and to me, it felt just very authentic and real, watching her make as many very big mistakes as she did.\u201d<\/p>\n
