Former Dancing With the Stars <\/i><\/a>pro Peta Murgatroyd<\/strong><\/a> has a bone to pick with the reality TV dance competition\u2019s current scoring system.<\/p>\n

\u201cA nine for me is, like, you are close to perfection \u2014 and perfection for a celebrity,\u201d Murgatroyd, 39, said on the Friday, October 24, episode of her \u201cPenthouse With Peta\u201d podcast<\/a>, discussing the ongoing season 34. \u201cThat\u2019s why I feel like the scoring system is so, so hard and so not correct.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cLike, we should start at twos and threes but a nine [means] you\u2019re nearly there perfect<\/a>. There\u2019s people who get nines that I don\u2019t think should get nines.\u201d (Master P<\/strong>, for the record, did receive twos back during season 2 for his now-disatrous paso doble.)<\/p>\n

While Murgatroyd did not name who was undeserving of their top scores, the judges \u2014 Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, Bruno Tonoili<\/strong> and guest Jon M. Chu<\/strong> \u2014 handed out several nines<\/a> to the likes of Whitney Leavitt, Jordan Chiles<\/strong> and Alix Earle<\/strong> on Tuesday, October 21, during Wicked Night.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tWhile the Dancing With the Stars scoring system leaves little room to mess up, some mistakes still have happened over the years. In 2016, Nyle DiMarco and pro Sharna Burgess were awarded a 37 out of 40 even though judges Bruno Tonioli and Maksim Chmerkovskiy held up 10 paddles. (DiMarco was paired with pro Peta [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

At the beginning of the season, the judges had kept scores to sixs and sevens.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe scoring tonight, just be mindful, it might be a little lower than you\u2019re expecting because there\u2019s a long way to go,\u201d Hough, 40, explained during the season premiere last month. \u201cThis is a marathon. We want to give you guys room to grow.\u201d<\/p>\n

Derek\u2019s sister and DWTS <\/i>host, Julianne Hough<\/strong>, appreciated the move.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think over the years, we\u2019ve done a lot of fusions of proper technical ballroom and Latin dances have fused into sort of these hybrid dances,\u201d Julianne, 37, said on the show\u2019s companion podcast<\/a> at the time. \u201cI really appreciated Bruno and Derek dropping the scores a little bit because you want to be able to see people improve, and you want to be able to give them the right critique so they can learn and grow.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tA live flub forced Dancing With the Stars cohost Alfonso Ribeiro to explain how routines are scored in the ballroom. After Mark Ballas and Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Whitney Leavitt hit the dance floor during the season 34 premiere on Tuesday, September 16, the pair received positive feedback from judges Derek Hough and [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

She added, \u201cHe\u2019d really be talking about the fundamentals and I think there was a lot of hybrid dancing [on Tuesday], which by the way, I get because we\u2019re in this new generation of TikTok and playful fun and it\u2019s entertaining. But that\u2019s why Dancing With the Stars<\/i> is so amazing because it is technical and it\u2019s a specific genre and it\u2019s hard to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

In successive weeks, former DWTS <\/i>pros like Kym Johnson-Herjavec<\/strong> and Cheryl Burke<\/strong> have taken guest positions on the judging panel. (Burke, 41, will appear on next week\u2019s Halloween Night<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s not going in hard,\u201d Burke exclusively told <\/a>Us Weekly<\/a> <\/i>on Thursday, October 23, defending Inaba\u2019s feedback that sparked rampant fan criticism. \u201cBut then when the judges are all full of compliments, [people] get mad at that too. This is also the beauty of the show, like, everyone has the right to their own opinion, but don\u2019t attack anybody.\u201d<\/p>\n
