Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback <\/span>Baker Mayfield<\/b>, 30, is sharing the story behind how he and his wife, <\/span>Emily Wilkson<\/b>, first met \u2014 and how it didn\u2019t exactly start off smoothly.<\/span><\/p>\n Ahead of the Buccaneers\u2019 Week 7 <\/span>Monday Night Football<\/span><\/i> game against the Detroit Lions, the couple sat down with ESPN reporter <\/span>Michelle Beisner-Buck<\/b> to talk about their relationship.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n When asked how it all began, Baker didn\u2019t hold back on the details of his early attempts to win Emily over.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cSo, I went to <\/span>Instagram<\/span><\/a>, hit the follow button. No follow back. Hit the unfollow button, hit the follow again, no follow back,\u201d Baker admitted.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cTried to slide into the DMs \u2014 no response. At this point, I\u2019m feeling pretty rejected. Finally, you gave [our friend] the OK that I could get your number.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Thankfully, persistence paid off. The two eventually went out for lunch \u2014 and instantly hit it off. \u201cThe entire time he was asking questions about me, about my family. It was not the Baker show,\u201d Emily said, smiling.<\/span><\/p>\n After that first date, both Baker and Emily told their friends and families that they had finally met the person they were going to marry.<\/span><\/p>\n The pair got engaged six months later and tied the knot in <\/span>July 2019<\/span><\/a>. Baker and Emily announced their pregnancy in an <\/span>Instagram post<\/span><\/a> on December 4, 2023 writing, \u201cWe\u2019ve been hiding a little something\u2026\u2026..\ud83e\udd2b\ud83d\udc40But we are THRILLED to share that baby girl Mayfield will be joining our crazy crew in early April 2024!\u201d. Their child, <\/span>Kova Jade Mayfield<\/span><\/a>, was born on April 9, 2024.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
