Kelly Clarkson<\/strong><\/a> made a rare comment about her upcoming plans to move to New York<\/a> with her children \u2014 and her talk show.<\/p>\n \u201cI haven\u2019t actually been able to talk about this a lot. I talked to my crew back in January through tears because I have built such an amazing group of people. Obviously, we\u2019ve been very successful and I love everybody I work with and we have such great relationships,\u201d Clarkson, 41, told TalkShopLive<\/a> on Thursday, May 25. \u201cI was like, \u2018Guys I need you to know what\u2019s happening. It\u2019s either I\u2019m not going to be able to continue with the show or I got to go the East Coast.’\u201d<\/p>\n The songwriter, who shares daughter River Rose, 8, and son Remington<\/a>, 7, with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock<\/strong><\/a>, said her decision came from wanting to be closer to her loved ones.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cMy family is East Coast. They\u2019re North Carolina-based. It was one of those things where I just had to. Also, there were a lot of personal things going on, too. I feel like our family \u2014 me and my kids \u2014 really needed a fresh start and I just could not get it here [in Los Angeles],\u201d she continued. \u201cThere was just hurdle after hurdle with things.\u201d<\/p>\n Clarkson noted that she warned the crew of The Kelly Clarkson Show<\/em><\/a> about the shakeup.<\/p>\n \u201cI wanted to give them a heads up but also I have had such a great experience with all these people and these relationships. It kind of sucks to uproot it and move it but that was 100 percent my idea,\u201d she recalled. \u201cIt was really cool that NBC backed me because I was, like, \u2018Y\u2019all I love doing this show, I really do, I didn\u2019t even know I would but I got to make a change for me and my family so any chance we can maybe do this. I know we can\u2019t do this from my ranch [in Montana]. So, any chance we can do it in New York, which is at least closer to my family.’\u201d<\/p>\n The \u201cBreakaway\u201d artist went on to say that she was preparing to film season 5 \u2014 and hinted at plans to address earlier reports of a toxic work environment.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m getting my show settled and we\u2019re establishing an amazing crew. We\u2019re figuring stuff out on the inside. And we\u2019re figuring it out to where we\u2019re going to have a great time and a great workplace,\u201d Clarkson shared. \u201cBecause I also told NBC this too, before I even started working on this show. [I said], \u2018Look, I\u2019m getting too old to work in an environment that isn\u2019t healthy and fun. I had to do that for years in meetings and working with really incredibly mean people sometimes so I just didn\u2019t want to do that anymore.\u2019 So I\u2019m focused on the talk show for a minute but I also am working on things in the background.\u201d<\/p>\n Earlier this month, Rolling Stone<\/em> published an expos\u00e9 in which several past employees of The Kelly Clarkson Show<\/em> claimed that they were overworked, underpaid and found the work environment to be \u201ctraumatizing to their mental health.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n Despite the allegations, multiple former employees told the outlet that the American Idol<\/em><\/a> alum was not aware of what was happening<\/a> behind the scenes. Clarkson, for her part, addressed the allegations in a statement.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cIn my 20 years in the entertainment industry, I\u2019ve always led with my heart and what I believed to be right,\u201d she wrote via Instagram on May 13. \u201cI love my team at The Kelly Clarkson Show<\/em>, and to find out that anyone is feeling unheard and disrespected on this show is unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n The Grammy winner added: \u201cI have always been, and will continue to be, committed to creating and maintaining a safe and healthy environment at The Kelly Clarkson Show.
