Sabrina Carpenter<\/strong><\/a> playfully clapped back at controversy over her album Man\u2019s Best Friend<\/em> during her appearance on Saturday Night Live<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The \u201cTears\u201d singer, 26, pulled double duty as host and musical guest for SNL<\/em>\u2019s latest season 51 episode on Saturday, October 18. She wasted no time in addressing criticism of the sexy lyrics and imagery<\/a> on her seventh studio album.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome people got a little freaked out by the cover,\u201d she told viewers in her monologue. \u201cI\u2019m not sure why? It was just this: me on all fours, with an unseen figure pulling my hair. But what people don\u2019t realize is that\u2019s just how they cropped it. If you zoom out, it\u2019s clearly a picture from the [Saturday Night Live<\/em>] 50th anniversary special of Bowen<\/strong> [Yang<\/strong>] helping me up by the hair \u2014 after Martin Short<\/strong> shoved me out of the buffet line, saying something like, \u2018Daddy need his mini quiche.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Carpenter then offered to \u201cclear up some misconceptions\u201d regarding her feelings about sexuality.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone thinks of me as this \u2018horn dog\u2019 pop star, but there\u2019s really so much more to me,\u201d she teased. \u201cI\u2019m not just horny. I\u2019m also turned-on, and I\u2019m sexually charged, and I love to read. My favorite book is the encyclopedia. It\u2019s so big, and it\u2019s hard.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite being name-checked by Carpenter in her SNL<\/em> monologue, cast member Yang actually missed Saturday\u2019s show<\/a> to attend an awards show in Los Angeles. (Yang still contributed to the writing and appeared in a pre-taped sketch.)<\/p>\n

SNL<\/em> also recently made headlines on October 11 when Charli XCX<\/strong> had a cameo<\/a> during musical guest Role Model<\/strong>\u2019s performance of \u201cSally, When the Wine Runs Out.\u201d Many suspected that Charli XCX\u2019s decision to wear a \u201cMax\u2019s Kansas City\u201d T-shirt may have been a not-so-subtle response to Taylor Swift<\/strong>\u2019s Life of a Showgirl<\/em> song, \u201cActually Romantic,\u201d which fans theorized was about a beef between the two stars. (Charli XCX, 33, declined to comment<\/a> when asked directly about the supposed feud in an October 14 interview.)<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Carpenter has her own history with Swift, as she was a support act on the Latin American, Australian and Singaporean legs of the Eras<\/em> Tour in 2024. Carpenter most recently duetted with Swift, 35, on the latter\u2019s Life of a Showgirl<\/em> title track.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Life of a Showgirl\u201d is the cautionary tale of a young dancer named Kitty who learns that show business is not \u201call flowers and magic,\u201d according to Swift.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we were writing it, we finished it, and I just kind of thought, I want Sabrina to sing on this so bad,\u201d Swift explained<\/a> during her Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl<\/em> event. \u201cShe\u2019s someone who\u2019s really well equipped for this career.\u201d<\/p>\n

Swift went on, \u201cShe\u2019s so good at moving through backlash or criticism, or people being unfair to her or picking her apart. She has the temperament to pivot and use it as fuel.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tSaturday Night Live host Quinta Brunson had some unexpected guests during her monologue on Saturday, May 3, when both Sabrina Carpenter and Dwyane Wade made cameo appearances. The Abbott Elementary creator and star, 35, kicked off her second SNL hosting stint by telling viewers that she was proof that \u201cyou can do anything you set [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Meanwhile, Saturday Night Live<\/em> underwent a huge cast overhaul following its landmark 50th season, with cast members Devon Walker<\/strong>, Michael Longfellow<\/strong>, Heidi Gardner<\/strong> and Ego Nwodim<\/strong> all leaving the show ahead of season 51. New featured players for the October 4 premiere included Tommy Brennan<\/strong>, Jeremy Culhane<\/strong>, Kam Patterson<\/strong>, Veronika Slowikowska<\/strong> and Please Don\u2019t Destroy member Ben Marshall<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

SNL<\/em> producer Lorne Michaels<\/strong> told Puck News<\/em><\/a> in August that it was a necessity to change up the cast since he couldn\u2019t really make any wholesale changes in season 50.<\/p>\n
