Vanessa Hudgens<\/strong><\/a> is opening up about her audition process for High School Musical<\/strong><\/a><\/em>!<\/p>\n The 36-year-old actress booked the leading female role of Gabriella Montez in the trilogy, which became quite the juggernaut for Disney. <\/p>\n While reminiscing with former co-star Bart Johnson<\/strong><\/a> on a recent episode of the Magical Rewind<\/em> podcast<\/a>, Vanessa<\/strong> dished on her chemistry with eventual co-star Zac Efron<\/strong><\/a>, whom she ended up dating for several years.<\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI was paired with this boy, and I was like, \u2018Oh my god, he\u2019s so cute,\u2019\u201d she recalled. \u201cAnd so like the chemistry was so real.\u201d <\/p>\n \u201cI guess I was 15. I had done a pilot for Disney Channel called The Bus Life <\/em>with Keke Palmer<\/strong><\/a>. It didn\u2019t get picked up, and I had auditioned for Disney a bunch,\u201d Vanessa<\/strong> shared. \u201cI was like, \u2018It\u2019s never gonna happen for me.\u2019 And this audition came up for High School Musical<\/em>, and I was like, \u2018I don\u2019t wanna go. I\u2019m not gonna get it.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI went in begrudgingly and did the audition. It was a normal audition,\u201d she added. \u201cI don\u2019t even remember what I sang\u2026I think maybe I sang \u2018Angels\u2019 by Jessica Simpson<\/strong><\/a> or \u2018Reflection\u2019 from Mulan<\/em> and did one of the scenes and then ended up getting a callback.\u201d<\/p>\n As the process continued, she recalled the actors \u201cgot mixed and matched with a bunch of people.\u201d <\/p>\n \u201cI got mixed up and I think I got put with Zac [Efron]<\/strong> right away,\u201d Vanessa<\/strong> said. <\/p>\n \u201cMe and Zac<\/strong> did the scene together. I sang with him. I feel like he got paired up with somebody else as well. I don\u2019t know. It all seems like such a blur,\u201d she says. \u201cAnd then I feel like a few weeks after that, I got the final callback, and it was, like, a final pairing where there was one other girl there for Gabriella, one other guy there for Troy, and we, like, swapped, mixed and matched. And that was it.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI got the call, and they were like, \u2018We want you to do it.\u2019 And I was like, \u2018Oh my god.
