Taylor Swift<\/strong><\/a> and Ed Sheeran<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s friendship may be hitting a bit of a rough patch \u2014 at least according to recent reports surrounding their music releases.<\/p>\n

The \u201cPerfect\u201d singer, 34, dropped his eighth studio album, Play<\/em>, on September 12, only for Swift to release her 12th album, The Life of a Showgirl<\/em><\/a> (LOAS), a mere three weeks later on October 3. The timing has sparked speculation of tension between the longtime friends, who first collaborated on Swift\u2019s Red<\/em> album in 2012 with the hit \u201cEverything Has Changed.\u201d<\/p>\n

An insider told the Daily Mail,<\/em><\/a> \u201cEd takes these things really seriously, and carefully plans his album releases. He announced his album with four months\u2019 notice, but then Taylor announced hers for just two weeks after.\u201d They added that Sheeran was \u201cvery much put out and understandably peeved,\u201d noting that \u201cit is not the first time that Taylor has done something like this. She\u2019s got form.\u201d<\/p>\n

The result? Sheeran\u2019s album, which debuted at No. 1 the week of release, quickly dropped out of the Top 10 once Swift\u2019s record hit shelves, leaving his team scrambling to keep attention on his work. Sheeran has previously explained how strategic timing is crucial. Speaking to the BBC<\/em> in 2017 about the release of his \u00f7 (Divide)<\/em> album, he said, \u201cEveryone I was scared of releasing albums around me released them all last year \u2014 people like Beyonce<\/strong> and The Weeknd<\/strong> and Bruno Mars<\/strong>. Taylor isn\u2019t going to be releasing until probably the end of this year \u2014 Christmas is the smartest time to release because that\u2019s when everyone buys records.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the music release drama makes headlines, Swift and Sheeran have reassured fans there\u2019s no real bad blood. Weeks prior, Sheeran revealed that he found out about Swift\u2019s engagement to Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce<\/strong> via Instagram. \u201cInstagram,\u201d he said during an August SiriusXM Small Stage Series interview. \u201cI didn\u2019t even get a DM in advance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Swift addressed the oversight during an October interview with Jimmy Fallon<\/strong>, saying, \u201cHe doesn\u2019t have a phone. And this is one thing I love about him. It\u2019s very eccentric. Love it. But when I\u2019m going through saying, \u2018Hey, who should we call? Who should we FaceTime?\u2019 I\u2019m going through my texts and being like, \u2018Who have I texted within the last like, month of my life?\u2019 Then, when the news came out, I was like, \u2018Oh my God we forgot to call Ed! Oh no!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cHe\u2019s like family. I love him. But he doesn\u2019t have a phone!\u201d \u2014 underscoring that the two are still close despite rumors of a strained friendship.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
