A devoted fan of the defunct indie-folk duo McGwyer Mortimer, he hires them both to play a private concert for him on the secluded Wallis Island. But Herb McGwyer (<strong>Tom Basden<\/strong>) no longer plays folk, and he is weary of reuniting with Nell Mortimer (<strong>Carey Mulligan<\/strong>), who was once his lover. They both need the cash, though, so they accept \u2013 but can they put their messy past and present grievances behind them long enough to perform for Charles, who has his own personal problems to deal with?<\/p>\n<p>Quiet and unassuming, <em>The Ballad of Wallis Island<\/em> is an absorbing drama that deals with how people recover \u2013 or don\u2019t \u2013 from a past relationship. Charles and Nell have moved on, but their reunion brings up old resentments they both thought were dead and buried. For Charles, his grief over his wife\u2019s passing still rules his life, even though he tries to use his new wealth to bury his pain. <em>Wallis Island<\/em>\u2019s three leads are all messed up in the best way possible, and the film\u2019s soundtrack has an appropriate folk-rock vibe that will make you want to walk in the woods and meditate.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/video\/detail\/amzn1.dv.gti.2e0d2af3-760a-4dc7-823e-f43c0be4d772\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Ballad of Wallis Island<\/em> is streaming on Prime Video.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>\u2018Tremors\u2019 (1990)<\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"&quot;Broke Into The Wrong Rec Room!&quot; | Tremors (1990)\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UeSd1GoUW-M?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Something is terrorizing the small town of Perfection, Nevada. After handymen Val (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/kevin-bacon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Kevin Bacon<\/strong><\/a>) and Earl (<strong>Fred Ward<\/strong>) discover the severed head of a town citizen, they initially think there\u2019s a serial killer on the loose. But soon they encounter the real culprits \u2013 four giant, underground worms that want to consume every animal and human in their path. With local scientist Rhonda (<strong>Finn Carter)<\/strong>, the trio must warn everyone else nearby and somehow destroy these killer creatures before it\u2019s too late.<\/p>\n<p>Fun and unexpectedly tense, <em>Tremors<\/em> packs as many laughs as it does gore. Like Jaws, it focuses on three working-class heroes who have to think quickly on their feet if they want to survive. Bacon and Ward are terrific as the in-over-their-heads buddies who are surprisingly resourceful, and the film\u2019s supporting cast is stacked with actors you\u2019d least expect in a movie like this, like <em>Family Ties<\/em> dad <strong>Michael Gross<\/strong> and country star <strong>Reba McEntire<\/strong> as a fun-loving, gun-toting married couple. But when his eldest son, Nic (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/timothee-chalamet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet<\/strong><\/a>), starts missing school and acting out, he\u2019s forced to deal with a problem that many families experience \u2013 drug addiction. Nic is a meth and heroin addict, and his need for drugs almost tears his family apart. David does the best he can by forcing his son into numerous rehab programs, but is it enough to save someone who doesn\u2019t want to be saved?<\/p>\n<p>Based on Schiff\u2019s autobiographical book of the same name, <em>Beautiful Boy<\/em> is an exacting and often painful look at how drug addiction takes its toll on everyone involved. The film shows that there\u2019s no easy path to rehabilitation; with Nic, there are periods of sobriety and relapses that make David wonder if his addiction will only stop with his son\u2019s death.
