Michael J. Fox<\/strong><\/a> is opening up about his battle with Parkinson\u2019s disease and his mortality.<\/p>\n

The Back to the Future<\/em><\/a> actor, 64, was diagnosed with early on-set Parkinson\u2019s<\/a> in 1991, at age 29, and has lived with the health condition for over 30 years.<\/p>\n

According to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson\u2019s Research<\/a>, which the actor founded in 2000, Parkinson\u2019s occurs when \u201cbrain cells that make dopamine, a chemical that coordinates movement, stop working or die,\u201d and can cause issues such as tremors, stiffness and walking and balance problems. It can also lead to depression, memory issues and other symptoms.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no timeline, there\u2019s no series of stages that you go through \u2014 not in the same way that you would, say, with prostate cancer,\u201d Fox said of his future prognosis in an interview with The Sunday Times<\/em><\/a> newspaper on Sunday, October 12. \u201cIt\u2019s much more mysterious and enigmatic.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fox added, \u201cThere are not many people who have had Parkinson\u2019s for 35 years,\u201d revealing that he\u2019s thought about his own mortality.<\/p>\n

The Apple TV+ film, which premiered on the streaming service on Friday, May 12, features candid interviews [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI\u2019d like to just not wake up one day. That\u2019d be really cool. I don\u2019t want it to be dramatic. I don\u2019t want to trip over furniture, smash my head,\u201d he shared.<\/p>\n

In the interview, the Spin City<\/em> actor opened up about the injuries he\u2019s experienced<\/a> over the years due to a decline in his motor skills.<\/p>\n

Fox recalled a doctor once suggested that the physical nature of his work as an actor might help him alleviate symptoms of the disease. \u201cIt was helpful, to a point,\u201d Fox said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s [the point] where I break stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s absolutely incredible the stuff I broke. In a three-year period I broke my elbow, I broke my hand, I got a big infection in my hand and I almost lost my finger,\u201d he shared with the outlet.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tMichael J. Fox gained worldwide recognition beginning in 1982 on the NBC sitcom Family Ties and continued his rise to fame for the next four decades. The Back to the Future star was born in Alberta, Canada, in June 1961 and began his acting career at the age of 16 in the Canadian TV series [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The actor said he has had to give up playing guitar, which was one of his favorite hobbies.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s terrible. I had all these little bones broken and it got infected and they had to cut the bones out because the bones got infected,\u201d he said. \u201cI broke my other shoulder, had it replaced. I broke my cheekbone.\u201d<\/p>\n

These days, the actor said he is much more limited in his movement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI take it easy now. I don\u2019t walk that much anymore. I can walk, but it\u2019s not pretty and it\u2019s a bit dangerous. So I just roll that into my life, you know \u2014 no pun intended,\u201d he shared.<\/p>\n
