The Summer I Turned Pretty<\/em><\/a> breakout is officially leading her own Netflix series, Genuine Fraud, based on the bestselling novel by We Were Liars<\/em><\/a> author E. Lockhart<\/strong>. Not only will Rain star in the project, but she\u2019s also set to executive produce \u2014 making this her biggest career move yet.<\/p>\n Netflix has officially greenlit Genuine Fraud<\/em>, but a release date has not been announced yet. The show is currently in development with Amazon MGM Studios behind the project, which is aiming to capture the same YA magic that made The Summer I Turned Pretty<\/em> and We Were Liars<\/em> massive hits.<\/p>\n The series comes on the heels of TSITP<\/em> wrapping its third and final season, marking a major new chapter for Rain\u2019s career.<\/p>\n Genuine Fraud<\/em> is described as a psychological thriller that follows a social chameleon (played by Spencer) who cleverly reinvents herself to become the best friend of a wealthy heiress. But when her \u201cfriend\u201d mysteriously goes missing, she assumes her identity \u2014 setting off a twisty, high-stakes story filled with secrets, deception, and unexpected turns.<\/p>\n The series is written and created by Sinead Daly<\/strong>, who fans may recognize from her work on The Summer I Turned Pretty<\/em> \u2014 she wrote the Season 3 episode \u201cThe Last Call.\u201d Daly has also worked on Hulu\u2019s Tell Me Lies,<\/em> Netflix\u2019s upcoming Midnight Sun animated series and other YA favorites.<\/p>\n Aside from Spencer, no additional casting has been announced yet. Celebrity guest stars and supporting cast members will likely be revealed once production officially begins.
