The classic board game Clue<\/em> has maintained enduring popularity across decades. And soon, a lucky group of contestants are going to have the chance to immerse themselves entirely in the Hasbro game with a new reality competition series in the works from Netflix.<\/p>\n

According to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>, the streamer has officially picked up the series order. And though details are evidently scarce, Netflix says that players will have to \u201cundergo physical and mental challenges in order to receive clues,\u201d with characters Colonel Mustard, Mrs. White, Mrs. Peacock, Mr. Green, Professor Plum, and Miss Scarlet all being represented. It\u2019s unclear whether the players will actually role play or if the game characters will assist (or distract) the players from solving the mystery.<\/p>\n

Not surprisingly, there will also apparently be red herrings to throw constantants off the case.<\/p>\n

The series comes on the heels of Sony acquiring the rights to adapt Clue last year. Hasbro Entertainment, Sony Pictures Television\u2019s The Intellectual Property Corporation (IPC), and B17 Entertainment will be producing the show.<\/p>\n

Netflix has seen success with other IP-based competition-style shows, including Squid Game: The Challenge<\/em> and Golden Ticket<\/em>, which was inspired by Willy Wonka, and Celebrity Bear Hunt<\/em>, where celebrities are placed in a jungle scenario where Bear Grylls trains and hunts them. Not to mention, Netflix\u2019s reality dating competition shows such as Love is Blind<\/em>, The Ultimatum: Queer Love<\/em>, and The Perfect Match<\/em> are still wildly popular.<\/p>\n

\u201cLike so many families and friends over the years, we\u2019ve gathered around the table trying to figure out who did it\u2014making Clue a source of nostalgia that everyone shares,\u201d said Jeff Gaspin, vice president of unscripted series for Netflix. \u201cThanks to the incredible vision of our partners at Hasbro Entertainment, IPC, and B17, we\u2019re delivering a fresh, imaginative whodunit competition that will invite today\u2019s audiences into that iconic world.\u201d<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t the first time Clue has been adapted for the screen. The first was the 1985 black comedy mystery from Paramount, starring a murder\u2019s row, pun intended, of comedic talent. The ensemble cast included Eileen Brennan, Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Martin Mull, and Lesley Ann Warren.<\/p>\n

Though the film initially received mixed reviews and underperformed at the box office, it later developed a cult following and remains very popular today.<\/p>\n

In November 2011, a five-part mystery television miniseries loosely based on the game was also released by Discovery Family\u2019s The Hub network.<\/p>\n

It will be interesting to see what Netflix has in store for its own take on the game.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
