Prince William<\/a> was left fighting back tears during a candid talk with a woman who lost her husband to suicide.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Prince William fought back tears during a moving interview to mark World Mental Health Day<\/p>\n
The Prince of Wales visited Rhian Manning at home to talk about the death of her husband Paul in 2012 as part of a video filmed to mark World Mental Health Day on Friday (10.10.25). The heir to the throne was seen getting choked up as he sat with Rhian in her kitchen and talked about her loss, which came just days after the death of the couple’s infant son George.<\/p>\n
William said: “From the families I’ve spoken to who have had to endure suicide. There’s a lot of unanswered questions that live with you forever, really, don’t they? … If you could say something, or wanted to say something to Paul. What would you \u2026 what would you have said?”<\/p>\n
Rhian replied: “I would just like to sit him down like this and just say, \u2018Why didn\u2019t you come to me?\u2019 Because he\u2019s missed out on just so much joy, and we would have been okay. And I think that\u2019s what\u2019s hardest – we would have been okay.”<\/p>\n
William was then seen getting visibly emotional and Rhian asked him: “Are you OK?”<\/p>\n
\nThe royal touched her hand and replied: “I\u2019m sorry. It\u2019s just \u2026 it\u2019s hard to ask these questions that I \u2026 “<\/p>\n
\nThe widow then went on to tell him: “No, it\u2019s fine. It\u2019s just \u2026 you\u2019ve got children. It\u2019s hard \u2026 and you\u2019ve experienced loss yourself … <\/p>\n
\n“Life can throw you these awful curveballs, but by talking about it, by, you know, having hope, you can continue.”<\/p>\n
\nWilliam added: “The best way to prevent suicide is to talk about it. Talk about it early, talk about it with your loved ones, those you trust, your friends. So thank you for talking about it.”<\/p>\n
\nSince the death of her husband, Rhian set up the charity 2 Wish Upon A Star, to help others affected by the loss of a child or a young person while William has donated more than \u00a31 million through his Royal Foundation to help set up the UK’s National Suicide Prevention Network.<\/p>\n
