The second track on Taylor Swift<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s 12th album, The Life of a Showgirl, <\/i>is named after<\/a> iconic actress Elizabeth Taylor<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to sort of, like, glamorize the different aspects of how [The Eras Tour<\/i>] felt \u2026 to be at the end of the night when all this has gone down,\u201d Swift, 35, said during her August 13 appearance on the \u201cNew Heights\u201d podcast. \u201cYou won\u2019t be able to get to bed till 4 in the morning after this, but you had to jump through 50 million hoops in the obstacle course that is your show, and you did it. \u2018You got two more in a row, but you did it tonight. That\u2019s all that matters right now.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Swift\u2019s fianc\u00e9, Travis Kelce<\/strong>, jumped in to note that the pop star was truly \u201ca showgirl\u201d amid the European leg of Eras <\/i>in 2024. Fans, meanwhile, noted via social media that the classic Hollywood star, who died in 2011, was also a showgirl<\/a> during her own career.<\/p>\n

\u201cElizabeth Taylor: famous child star in the 1940s and even more of a superstar in the 1950s,\u201d one social media user wrote via X. \u201cTay rose to fame at 16 and got even bigger 10 and 20 years later. [Elizabeth] was married seven times. Tay could touch on this with the media\u2019s perception of her and her partners throughout her career.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tWeeks away from its release, Taylor Swift\u2019s 12th album, The Life of a Showgirl, has fans spiraling over her lyrical prose and the meaning behind each sure-to-be pop hit. Swift, 35, announced her 12th studio record during a Wednesday, August 13, appearance on her boyfriend Travis Kelce\u2019s \u201cNew Heights\u201d podcast, revealing that she wrote the [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The song, which dropped Friday, October 3, is presumably a reference<\/a> to Kelce and their love story.<\/p>\n

\u201cHey-ey, what could you possibly get for the girl who has everything and nothing all at once? \/ Babe, I would trade the Cartier for someone to trust (Just kidding),\u201d she sings in a track about searching for a \u201cforever\u201d type of love. \u201cWe hit the best booth at Musso and Frank\u2019s \/ They say I\u2019m bad news, I just say, \u2018Thanks\u2019 \/ And you look at me like you\u2019re hypnotized \/ And I think you know why.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an Apple Music behind-the-scenes featurette released on Friday, Swift confirmed \u201cElizabeth Taylor\u201d was the first Showgirl\u00a0<\/em>song she wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cUsually [Max Martin<\/strong> and Shellback<\/strong>] have copious amounts of notes, this one they were like, \u2018Well, that\u2019s the chorus,’\u201d she recalled of sending her initial hook and lyrics.<\/p>\n

Elizabeth made her first movie in 1942, starring in There\u2019s One Born Every Minute. <\/i>She went on to star in<\/a> National Velvet, Life With the Father, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Butterfield 8, Cleopatra <\/i>and many more.<\/p>\n

In addition to her celebrated and award-winning acting career, Elizabeth was known for her numerous, highly publicized romances. She was married eight times and often commanded attention wherever she went.<\/p>\n

Elizabeth\u2019s son Christopher Wilding<\/strong> even once revealed that Swift\u2019s aura reminded him of his late mother.<\/p>\n

Not only did Swift\u2019s Reputation <\/i>feature a nod to Elizabeth, but the musician name-checked her again in a December 2023 Instagram video. At the time, Swift\u2019s friend Keleigh Teller<\/strong> gifted her an opal ring for her 34th birthday. (The Life of a Showgirl <\/i>also features a song called \u201cOpalite,\u201d<\/a> presumably inspired by the man-made version of the gemstone.)<\/p>\n
