Miley Cyrus faced a brutal backlash over her raunchy pop persona<\/p>\n
The 32-year-old singer rose to fame on kids’ show Hannah Montana – in which she played a schoolgirl with a secret career as a pop star – but she faced an angry backlash after she walked away from her family friendly role and embraced a raunchy new persona as she launched her music career away from the Disney series.<\/p>\n
Miley has now called the reaction to her transition “brutal” and believes she was the first celebrity to fall victim to cancel culture. In an interview on CBS Sunday Morning, due to air on October 5, she said: “I was the first person to maybe ever be canceled, I guess.<\/p>\n
“I didn\u2019t know until I was older, actually, how brutal it really was … It was very challenging for other people but for me, it was a good time. <\/p>\n
“It looked fun and it was fun. So it wasn\u2019t until I was older that I realized how harsh [the reaction was].”<\/p>\n
\nIn the interview teaser, which was released via social media, Miley added: “I would never now, being where I am, ever look at someone in their 20s from the view of who I am now. But at the time, it was awesome.”<\/p>\n
\nIt comes after Miley recently admitted she’s “not afraid” to walk away from the entertainment industry because she’s still living with a career decision she made when she was a child.<\/p>\n
\nSpeaking to Pamela Anderson for CR Fashion Book, Miley explained: “I\u2019m always redesigning, reimagining, re-inspiring. “I actually had this moment the other night where I was lying in bed thinking, ‘Wow, I really jumped on a train when I was 11 years old, and I\u2019ve never gotten off.’ <\/p>\n
\n“I made a decision at 11, and I\u2019ve never stopped. I made this deep commitment, and I never questioned it or reexamined it. <\/p>\n
\n“It wasn\u2019t until my late 20s and early 30s that I started reevaluating: ‘Is this still what I want?’ So far, the answer has been yes, but I\u2019m not afraid of the day it\u2019s no. I don\u2019t know if that day will come – when this no longer has my heart the way it does now.” <\/p>\n
\nMiley also revealed she has actually come to appreciate “simple” things in life in spite of her fame and success. <\/p>\n
\nThe chart-topping star explained: “A big part of what we do is sharing. Something I love is gardening – actually, I\u2019m making sure my dog isn\u2019t digging mine up at this exact moment. <\/p>\n
\n“Gardening is something you do for yourself. When we\u2019ve shared so much of ourselves, having those little precious times with something simple – like putting a seed in the ground and nurturing it – it becomes a very personal process. <\/p>\n
\n“Having that has been the medicine that\u2019s kept me grounded in my sober lifestyle. It\u2019s part of a practice, the way yoga might be: getting out into nature, doing something with my hands, and having a creative outlet that isn\u2019t about fame or success.”<\/p>\n
