The 76-year-old Black Sabbath frontman, who died less than three weeks after the July 2025 show at Villa Park following a battle with Parkinson\u2019s and surgery pain, described the frustration in an extract from his forthcoming posthumous memoir, saying he repeatedly tried to stand up at the show despite being too weak to walk.<\/p>\n
Ozzy said: \u201cThere was no way I could stand up to sing, so they sat me on this massive black throne. It was a necessary evil and they made the best of it, giving it a skull on each armrest and bat wings on the back. \u201cAt one point there was talk of making it fly over the stage and shoot water at the crowd, but thank f*** that didn\u2019t happen \u2019cos knowing my luck it would have crashed. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe only thing that was really frustrating for me was that I wanted to jump up and run around the stage. \u201cI tried a few times. You can see it on the tape. <\/p>\n
\u201cI wanted to get up from that throne so badly. But my legs are too weak now. And my balance has gone to s***. It p***** me off no end but what can you do? Everything else about the gig was perfect.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nOzzy\u2019s final concert \u2013 billed as Back to the Beginning \u2013 reunited the original Sabbath lineup for one final performance before 42,000 fans, with another 5.8 million watching online.<\/p>\n
\nHis memoir details how the rocker \u2013 who was battling Parkinson\u2019s, emphysema, sepsis and repeated pneumonia before the show \u2013 struggled to even reach the concert. <\/p>\n
\nHe underwent spinal surgery at Cedars-Sinai hospital in January 2025 after doctors initially refused to operate, fearing he would not survive. <\/p>\n
\nAfter a near-fatal bout of sepsis, he spent two months on intravenous antibiotics before flying to England with wife Sharon, daughter Aimee, his nurse and a security guard.<\/p>\n
\nSharon organised the event as a farewell for her husband, securing Black Sabbath\u2019s reunion alongside guest appearances by Guns N\u2019 Roses, Metallica and Aerosmith\u2019s Steven Tyler. <\/p>\n
\nProceeds went to Birmingham Children\u2019s Hospital, Cure Parkinson\u2019s and Acorns Children\u2019s Hospice.<\/p>\n
\nOzzy recalled arriving at the stadium feeling overwhelmed. <\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cComing on stage all I could think was, is my voice really up for this? But as soon as the curtain went up I forgot about my nerves. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cSuddenly I was looking out over 42,000 faces\u2026 it was overwhelming, man, it really was.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHe performed I Don\u2019t Know, Mr Crowley and Suicide Solution before breaking down during Mama, I\u2019m Coming Home, which Lemmy Kilmister of Mot\u00f6rhead wrote with Osbourne and Sharon in mind.<\/p>\n
