Kathy Griffin<\/a> opened up about the fallout of her friendship with CNN anchor Anderson Cooper<\/a>, calling it a \u201ctough situation<\/a>\u201d at the time.<\/p>\n The news personality cut ties with the comedienne shortly after calling a 2017 viral photo of Griffin posing with a disembodied head<\/a> that resembled then-president Donald Trump<\/a> \u201cdisgusting\u201d and \u201ccompletely inappropriate.\u201d<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p> During a sit-down with Bill Maher<\/a> on his \u201cClub Random\u201d podcast, the political commentator asked her if she was \u201cstill not friends<\/a>\u201d with Cooper.<\/p>\n \u201cNo, but that was like a little more of a friendship,\u201d the 62-year-old explained. \u201cLike, that was like kind of a personal thing<\/a> because that was like a tough situation.\u201d<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p> Maher questioned whether she would be willing to \u201cget over that<\/a> with him,\u201d to which she replied, \u201cSure. Of course,\u201d but noted she wasn\u2019t sure if he was \u201cinterested\u201d in that.<\/p>\n \u201cI mean, you know, I also don\u2019t have like a need to like, hang out with people that maybe weren\u2019t so kosher<\/a>,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p> Maher then clarified<\/a>, \u201cBut were you really friends with Anderson Cooper?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI thought so. I didn\u2019t think we were Hollywood friends. I thought we were legit friends,\u201d she replied, further revealing that their friendship was one where they could \u201cbare your souls to each other and you\u2019re there for each other when this one\u2019s having a tough day.\u201d<\/p>\n In another portion of the interview, the 67-year-old show host pointed out that he thinks while cancer is always \u201cbad,\u201d he felt like Griffin\u2019s recent battle with lung cancer<\/a> made her a \u201cbetter person\u201d who didn\u2019t \u201cfight\u201d as much with people anymore.<\/p>\n \u201cI think people can see me as a human being for the first time in a while,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd I\u2019ve just noticed a lot of people reaching out<\/a> to me on social media just saying, \u2018I didn\u2019t like this about you.
