Rebecca Gayheart<\/b> is opening up about how her family is coping with husband <\/span>Eric Dane\u2019s<\/b> ALS diagnosis.<\/span><\/p>\n The actress shared that their daughters, <\/span>Billie<\/b>, 15, and <\/span>Georgia<\/b>, 13, have been struggling in the wake of the news.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe have some professional therapists who are helping us, and we\u2019re just trying to have some hope and do it with dignity, grace and love,\u201d Gayheart told <\/span>People<\/span><\/i><\/a> at Step Up\u2019s 2025 Inspiration Awards.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI mean, it\u2019s heartbreaking. My girls are really suffering, and we\u2019re just trying to get through it. It\u2019s a tough time,\u201d she added.<\/span><\/p>\n Back in June, the <\/span>Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/span><\/i> alum, 52, spoke candidly with <\/span>Diane Sawyer<\/b><\/a> about the reality of living with ALS. \u201cI wake up every day, and I\u2019m immediately reminded that this is happening. It\u2019s not a dream,\u201d Dane said at the time.<\/span><\/p>\n Dane announced his ALS diagnosis to <\/span>People<\/span><\/i> on April 10, 2025. \u201cI have been <\/span>diagnosed with ALS<\/span><\/a>,\u201d he wrote. \u201cI am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The actor added, \u201cI feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to the set of <\/span>Euphoria<\/span><\/i> next week. I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Gayheart also reflected on how the diagnosis has reshaped their relationship. \u201cWe\u2019re definitely dealing with something that has brought us all together, and Eric will always be my family\u2014whether we\u2019re married or not, or living in the same house or not. We are closer, but we don\u2019t like the reason why. It\u2019s <\/span>a horrible disease<\/span><\/a>, and I wish there was a cure. I hope they find one soon, because it is just so sad.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Earlier in September 2025, Dane announced his partnership with the nonprofit organization<\/span> I AM ALS<\/span><\/i><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m Eric, an actor, a father and now a person living with ALS,\u201d the<\/span> star said in a <\/span>video<\/span><\/a> message. \u201cFor over a century, ALS has been incurable, and we\u2019re done accepting the status quo. We need the fastest path to a cure, and that\u2019s why I partnered with I Am ALS on the Push for Progress. Our goal: a billion dollars over the next three years.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n He continued, \u201cTogether, we\u2019ll renew the landmark <\/span>Act for ALS<\/span><\/a>, bring promising treatments to thousands of patients like me, and finally, finally, push toward ending this disease.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
