Madonna<\/a> said: \u201cThere were moments in my life I wanted to cut my arms off\u2026 I actually contemplated suicide. <\/p>\n\u201cI would say probably one of the most painful moments in my life where I honestly couldn\u2019t see the forest for the trees was when I went through a custody battle with my son.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cEven though my marriage didn\u2019t work out\u2026 I mean a lot of people\u2019s marriages don\u2019t work out. They marry the wrong people. They\u2019re not aligned. They\u2019re not meant for each other. Someone trying to take my child away from me was like, they might as well just kill me. That\u2019s really how I was thinking. \u201cAnd I was on tour at the time, so I had to go on stage every night. I would just be lying on the floor of my dressing room sobbing. I really thought it was like it was the end of the world. I couldn\u2019t take it. I just couldn\u2019t take it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nMadonna became involved in the custody dispute when Rocco, then 16, chose to remain in London with his father while she was touring with Rebel Heart. <\/p>\n
\nAfter a lengthy legal process, a settlement was reached that allowed him to stay in the UK. <\/p>\n
\nShe and Guy had divorced in 2008.<\/p>\n
\nThe singer, who has six children, said she is now \u201cgood friends\u201d with Rocco. <\/p>\n
\nShe credited her faith for helping her endure: <\/p>\n
\nMadonna added: \u201cBut thank God I don\u2019t feel that way anymore\u2026 I\u2019m happy to say that I\u2019m really good friends with my son but I couldn\u2019t see it then. I really thought it was the end of the world. So, you know, thank God I had a spiritual life.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nIn the podcast interview, her first in nine years, Madonna also spoke about reconciling with her brother Christopher Ciccone before his death in June 2024 at the age of 63, following a battle with throat cancer.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cFor my brother, I didn\u2019t speak to him for three years. Years and years. And it was him being ill and reaching out to me and saying, \u2018I need your help\u2019, that means having that moment, like, \u2018Am I gonna help my enemy?\u2019 And I just did.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nMadonna added: \u201cIt was such a load off my back, such a weight that was removed, baggage that was put down to finally be able to be in a room with him and holding his hand, even if he was dying, saying, \u2018I love you and I forgive you.\u2019 That was really important.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe singer also described discovering Kabbalah in 1996 and the strength it gave her to align her life with purpose beyond the spotlight. <\/p>\n
\nShe has recently launched a new course, The Mystical Studies of the Zohar, with Kabbalah teacher Eitan Yardeni.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cYou need to be spiritual to be successful. Success is having a spiritual life, period. I wouldn\u2019t be here if I didn\u2019t have one.\u201d<\/p>\n
