The former world champion boxer \u2013 nicknamed \u2018The Hitman\u2019 \u2013 was found dead aged 46 earlier this month at his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester by his friend and manager Paul Speak, and a chat he gave before his shock passing has also revealed he claimed he was feeling on the best form of his life.<\/p>\n
Police have said his death was not being treated as suspicious. <\/p>\n
In an interview with First Round TV recorded shortly before his death, Ricky said about the depths of his depression: \u201cThankfully, I didn\u2019t get to the stage where I ended up killing myself. I got to the stage where finally for whatever reason I decided to go and knock on someone\u2019s door and say, \u2018Please help me\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
When asked how he felt now, he replied: \u201cNever better, to be honest with you.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nRicky continued: \u201cI thank myself every day, you know, for that. I didn\u2019t kill myself because I wouldn\u2019t have seen me granddaughter. I wouldn\u2019t have made up with Billy Graham. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cI wouldn\u2019t have done my documentary, got great feedback from that. I\u2019ve done an exhibition with Marco and Tony Barrera. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cI went on Dancing on Ice. I probably wish I hadn\u2019t to be honest with you. I look at the things I\u2019ve been able to do since, you know, positive things that have inspired others, not just myself, inspired others. And that\u2019s because I went and spoke to someone.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHe added: \u201cI think that\u2019s my job today. I\u2019m a trainer now. I want to try and pass a little bit on to somebody. And if I can go and speak to someone and talk about mental health and say, \u2018Listen, you don\u2019t hold it in. Go and speak to someone. If you get off your chest and speak to someone, it\u2019d be the best thing you do.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\nNews of Ricky\u2019s passing prompted tributes across sport, with Tyson Fury, Amir Khan,Roy Keane and David Beckham among those who remembered him.<\/p>\n
\nMr Speak, who discovered Ricky\u2019s body, said he believed his long-time friend \u201cdid not intend to do it\u201d. He told Boxing News: \u201cThe lights weren\u2019t on, which I thought was strange. I thought he\u2019d overslept, but it\u2019s not unusual. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cPeople do oversleep. I heard music coming from upstairs, so I went upstairs\u2026 I took a look at him\u2026 I had to take some time to process it. I was in a state of shock and confusion and loss and many more emotions. Then I called the police and the ambulance. But I firmly believe he didn\u2019t intend to do it. It\u2019s for the coroner to determine, but he had it all to live for.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nRicky first spoke publicly about his suicidal thoughts in 2018, saying a career crisis and fractured relationships with Graham and his parents left him \u201cnot caring if (he) lived or died\u201d.<\/p>\n
