Nev Schulman<\/strong><\/a> is opening up about switching career paths and learning his long-running show Catfish<\/em> was canceled. <\/p>\n In a new interview, the 41-year-old host of the MTV series revealed the shocking way he found out it was no longer moving forward<\/a>, over a year after the last season aired. <\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n While speaking with Variety<\/a><\/em> this week, Nev<\/strong> said he learned the show was axed at the same time as everyone else! <\/p>\n \u201cI had the sense the show wasn\u2019t going to get renewed, but there was never anything communicated to me,\u201d he dished. <\/p>\n Nev<\/strong> hosted the show across nine seasons and almost 300 episodes, from the time it first premiered in 2012 until July 2024, when the last episode aired. However, amid parent company Paramount\u2019s merger with Skydance Media, he was in the dark on the future of the show. <\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not going to sit around and wait by the phone,\u201d he said. He then started on a backup plan to make money \u2013 jumping into real estate<\/a> and following in his father\u2019s footsteps!<\/p>\n \u201cTV is unpredictable,\u201d he explained of his new career. \u201cIf I\u2019m being perfectly honest, as a responsible adult and father of three children, and someone who takes my role in this family as the provider very seriously, I thought I should have another source of income.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThere are a lot of similarities between falling in love with a person and falling in love with a property,\u201d he added. \u201cPeople feel as though they know me from the show, and they do. There\u2019s a comfortability and a trust that\u2019s been built because I\u2019ve been in their homes, I\u2019ve been on their TV screens.\u201d<\/p>\n However, Nev<\/strong> isn\u2019t ruling out a return to Catfish<\/em>, as the network has allowed producers Ariel Schulman<\/strong>, Henry Joost<\/strong> and Andrew Jarecki<\/strong>, who hold the rights to it, to shop it elsewhere.<\/p>\n \u201cWe feel strongly that the show still holds a tremendous value culturally,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s certainly no shortage of loneliness and people looking for love.\u201d<\/p>\n If you missed it, these shows have been renewed<\/a> for new seasons on MTV!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
