When the film’s director, Mike Nichols, asked Redford if he could relate to the story’s nerdy hero, Benjamin Braddock, by drawing upon his experience being turned down by women, Redford replied, “What do you mean?”

That juicy tidbit is one of many found in Becoming Mike Nichols, a gossipy, well-researched documentary that examines one of America’s most prolific directors of the stage and screen. The story remains largely the same: demigod Perseus (Sam Worthington) must save the city of Argos from the monstrous Kraken, who is controlled by the underworld god, Hades (Ralph Fiennes). To defeat the Kraken, they must obtain the only thing that can stop the creature — the head of the Gorgon witch, Medusa (Natalia Vodianova). But how can you kill a woman who can turn any man to stone the instant you see her?

Clash of the Titans lives up to its title; there are clashes aplenty, with titans, mortals and creatures all battling it out. The movie’s cast is impressive, with Liam Neeson successfully embodying Zeus and Fiennes lending his Voldemort-like sliminess to Hades. The film successfully blends Greek myth with Bayhem-style action, which is more entertaining than it has any right to be.

Clash of the Titans is streaming on HBO Max.

‘Let Them All Talk’ (2020)

Thank You!

You have successfully subscribed.

Alice Hughes (Meryl Streep) is a successful American novelist who is due to receive a prestigious award in England. Unable to travel by plane, she books passages aboard the Queen Mary 2 with her nephew, Tyler (Lucas Hedges), and two estranged friends, Roberta (Candice Bergen) and Susan (Dianne Wiest). Once on the ship, the foursome confront some harsh truths about their shared past, present and unlikely future. Alice realizes she’s not as beloved as she thought she was, and Tyler suspects she’s hiding a secret from all of them.

Let Them All Talk does just that, showcasing each of its four leads in dialogue-heavy scenes that prioritize introspection over action. The movie’s not a bore, though, and that’s because of the stellar acting from its cast. Streep is typically great, but it’s Bergen and Wiest who steal the show as friends who have some justifiable grudges to settle with their more successful friend. The movie’s ending includes a shocking plot development, but it’s not cheap. Instead, Let Them All Talk concludes on a graceful note that elevates everything that came before it.

Let Them All Talk is streaming on HBO Max.

Source link

It’s the end of the week, which means you probably have some free time to chill out.
