Liam Hemsworth<\/strong><\/a> is breaking his silence about replacing Henry Cavill<\/strong><\/a> in The Witcher<\/em>.<\/p>\n The Hunger Games<\/em> star takes over the role of Geralt of Rivia in the fourth season of Netflix\u2019s hit fantasy series<\/a>, which is set to premiere on October 30. Hemsworth\u2019s casting \u2014 and Cavill\u2019s departure \u2014 was first announced<\/a> in October 2022.<\/p>\n Hemsworth recalled the social media \u201cnoise\u201d that followed the big news in an interview with Entertainment Weekly<\/em><\/a> published on Thursday, September 25.<\/p>\n \u201cThere was quite a bit of noise and I had to put that aside,\u201d the Australian actor said. \u201cIt started to become a distraction.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI dealt with that sort of thing in the past a lot and, you know, at the end of the day, I love making movies and I love telling stories and acting. I just don\u2019t want any of that to affect my way of telling the story that I\u2019m trying to tell. I jumped off social media and the internet most of last year,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n Hemsworth, 35, previously gained the internet\u2019s attention when he starred alongside Jennifer Lawrence<\/strong> in the Hunger Games<\/em> franchise. His personal life has also been subject to social media scrutiny due to his high-profile marriage to Miley Cyrus<\/strong><\/a>. (The couple finalized their divorce in January 2020.)<\/p>\n As for Cavill, Hemsworth said, \u201cI\u2019m a massive fan of Henry\u2019s, and I\u2019m a fan of what he did in the show.\u201d<\/p>\n The Witcher<\/em> showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich<\/strong> told the outlet that Hemsworth was eyed for the role when it became apparent Cavill, 42, was ready to move on.<\/p>\n \u201cHis name has been out there for a very long time,\u201d Hissrich said, though Hemsworth admitted the offer to play Geralt \u201ccame out of nowhere.\u201d He added, \u201cI was as surprised as anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n According to Hissrich, Cavill\u2019s departure was mutually agreed upon and there were no \u201cserious conversations about the show not continuing.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe show is bigger than one actor. It\u2019s bigger than me. There\u2019s a book series, there\u2019s a video game. We are the third entry into this.
