Emma Watson was banned from driving earlier this year<\/p>\n
The 35-year-old actress received a six-month driving ban in the UK in July, after she was caught speeding at 38 miles per hour in a 30 miles per hour zone – but Emma was soon inundated with supportive messages from people who’d been through similar experiences.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Jay Shetty for his On Purpose podcast, Emma joked: “I recently started riding a bicycle. Yes, I started riding a bicycle before my driving ban, but now it’s particularly fortuitous that I also ride a bicycle for that reason.”<\/p>\n
Emma had nine points on her licence before her most-recent indiscretion. But she was surprised that her driving ban attracted so much attention.<\/p>\n
She said: “I was getting phone calls. Like, it’s on the BBC, it was on international, worldwide news! I was like, ‘My shame….’ It is everywhere.”<\/p>\n
\nDespite this, Emma was surprised to receive so much support from the general public.<\/p>\n
\nThe actress explained: “When you worked on movies \u2014 I don’t know if people know this \u2014 they literally will not insure you to drive yourself to work. I’ve asked so many times. You have to be driven. It’s not a choice. Especially because they need you there down to the minute, basically, depending on what they have going on.<\/p>\n
\n“So I went from basically only driving myself on weekends or during holiday to when I became a student, driving myself all the time. I did not have the experience or skills, clearly, which I now will and do.”<\/p>\n
\nMeanwhile, Emma recently revealed that she doesn’t miss “selling” her films.<\/p>\n
\nThe actress has stepped back from the movie business in recent times in order to pursue a doctorate at the University of Oxford, and Emma revealed that she doesn’t miss some aspects of the industry.<\/p>\n
\nShe told Hollywood Authentic: “In some ways, I really won the lottery [with acting], and what happened to me is so unusual. But a bigger component than the actual job itself is the promotion and selling of that piece of work, this piece of art. The balance of that can get quite thrown off.”<\/p>\n
