Mariah Carey had a difficult relationship with her mom<\/p>\n
The 56-year-old singer had an “interesting” relationship with her mom for most of her life, but they managed to reconcile their differences before Patricia passed way in August 2024.<\/p>\n
Mariah said on CBS Mornings: “I don\u2019t know how I processed it, I just know that it was extremely difficult for me to navigate and it was tough because I have always had an interesting relationship with my mother.”<\/p>\n
Although they had a turbulent relationship, Mariah was by her mother’s side at the end of her life.<\/p>\n
Mariah’s estranged sister, Alison, also died on the same day in August 2024, and the music star admits that it was an incredibly difficult time for her.<\/p>\n
\nSpeaking about her mom’s passing, Mariah shared: “I with her the whole time. And so I feel better about that. But it was tough.<\/p>\n
\n“And my sister, I hadn\u2019t seen in years, and I feel really badly about that as well. But that\u2019s because I tend to have a guilt complex about everything. But it\u2019s tough, my sister had an extremely hard life.”<\/p>\n
\nMariah was able to find some comfort in the heartfelt conversations she had with her mom before she passed away.<\/p>\n
\nShe shared: “She said a lot of things that were very healing for what I needed. And I felt like that was the right thing to do.”<\/p>\n
\nMariah announced the passing of her mom and her sister via a statement given to People in August 2024.<\/p>\n
\nAt the time, the singer admitted to feeling heartbroken – but Mariah also felt “blessed” that she was able to spend time with her mom before she passed away.<\/p>\n
\nMariah said: “My heart is broken that I\u2019ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.<\/p>\n
\n“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone\u2019s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”<\/p>\n
