Miley Cyrus<\/strong><\/a> is revealing how her love of music helped her repair her fractured relationship with her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cThis song was written as a peace offering for someone I had lost for a time but always loved,\u201d Cyrus, 32, explained via Instagram on Thursday, September 18, referring to her new song \u201cSecrets,\u201d which she cowrote with Lindsay Buckingham<\/strong> and Mick Fleetwood<\/strong> of Fleetwood Mac.<\/p>\n \u201cIn my experience, forgiveness and freedom are one and the same,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n Miley had previously revealed the new song was written for her dad while appearing on the \u201cReclaiming with Monica Lewinsky\u201d podcast in June 2025.<\/p>\n \u201cI wrote this song about my dad, because I wanted him to tell me, even though they were secrets, even though I didn\u2019t really wanna know, I wanted to be the one he felt safe enough to tell me the things that were damning and damaging to the family,\u201d she told \u201cReclaiming\u201d host Monica Lewinsky<\/strong><\/a> at the time. \u201cBut I wanted him to think that, as a middle child, I\u2019m old enough that I could take some of that you know. And I always wanted my family to feel like I was the safe place, that I always had the white flag when they came to talk to me.\u201d<\/p>\n Miley and Billy Ray\u2019s relationship allegedly began to fracture back in 2022, after Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus announced their divorce<\/a>. Billy Ray also adopted Tish\u2019s daughter Brandi and her son Trace, whose biological father is Baxter Neal Helson, after their December 1993 wedding. Miley attended her mother\u2019s 2023 wedding to Purcell alongside her sister Brandi, but the pair\u2019s younger siblings, Noah and Braison, were missing.<\/p>\n \u201cMiley and Billy Ray are on the outs,\u201d a source revealed to Us<\/em> at the time. \u201cMiley\u2019s very close with her mom and is standing by her.\u201d<\/p>\n Billy Ray\u2019s own October 2023 marriage<\/a> to Firerose<\/strong> only added to the divide.
