The 36-year-old Vampire Diaries actress and the 39-year-old sports star recently called off their engagement, ending their five-year relationship, but friends insist there is \u201cno drama here\u201d.<\/p>\n
A source told Us Weekly: \u201cThere was no drama here. No cheating was involved. They were loyal to each other their entire relationship. At the end of the day, they\u2019re human beings, just like everyone else. They genuinely just grew apart and saw they would be better off just as friends and not husband and wife.\u201d<\/p>\n
Another friend claimed the couple were actually planning their wedding when they decided to split.<\/p>\n
The source said: \u201cThey had finally started planning the wedding and things were in motion. It\u2019s still very fresh, but she\u2019s been supported by her closest girlfriends who have been checking in on her.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nMeanwhile, it was recently reported that Nina is devastated by the break-up.<\/p>\n
\nA source told PEOPLE: “She is devastated. There was one reason: She wanted a family and wanted to get married – and he didn’t.”<\/p>\n
\nThe former couple got engaged last October after four years of dating. <\/p>\n
\nJust a few months before the split, Shaun spoke of how “excited” he and Nina were to be planning their wedding.<\/p>\n
\nHe told PEOPLE: “It’s very exciting to have new aspirations and new things that we’re going after and together. It’s very humbling and very exciting, and she’s excited.<\/p>\n
\n“We’ve gotten a lot of advice from different people who have planned their own weddings and things. So we’re definitely gathering information and now trying to see what’s going to work best for us in any way.”<\/p>\n
\nShaun thought it was “fun” to be planning the “next chapter” of their lives as a couple.<\/p>\n
\nThe former Olympian shared: “It’s like you took that next step and yeah, it’s just a fun sort of planning phase of life.<\/p>\n
\n“Like, ‘What’s the next steps, and the next chapter and where do we want to be?’ It’s fun. It’s fun to have somebody to plan all that with.”<\/p>\n
