After hitting a major career milestone with the release of her memoir, Scheana Shay<\/strong><\/a> was surprised by the reaction \u2014 or lack thereof \u2014 from her former Vanderpump Rules<\/em><\/a> costars.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat surprised me is how many people didn\u2019t support it publicly,\u201d Shay, 40, told Us Weekly<\/em> exclusively at the Page Six Virtual Reali-Tea \u201cVRT Awards\u201d 2025 at City Winery on Wednesday, September 17.<\/p>\n

Shay, who chose not to name names, was still proud of how My Good Side<\/em> was received.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI couldn\u2019t have expected what a great reaction that everyone just had about the book. It became a New York Times best seller. It\u2019s incredible,\u201d she gushed. \u201cIt\u2019s really great to just feel like so many people were able to relate to my story. They enjoyed reading it. For little Scheana \u2014 who always raised her hand and wanted to read aloud in class \u2014 I was like, \u2018Now I\u2019m a New York Times best-selling not just author but also narrator.\u2019 That\u2019s so cool.\u201d<\/p>\n

After My Good Side<\/em> was released in July, Shay hinted that she was upset that several friends \u2014 including Lala Kent \u2014 after they didn\u2019t post anything publicly showing their support.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI think it was like maybe a week after it came out, I saw she posted a slide [with the book]. There was nothing else that she posted,\u201d Shay recalled on an August episode of her \u201cScheananigans\u201d podcast. \u201cI had reached out to her a couple days after all of the boxes were delivered. Because yes, you do expect your closest friends to post and support.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shay was surprised Kent, 35, didn\u2019t share a post about her book release sooner.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI sent everyone a really nice PR box. I\u2019m sure you guys saw some others who posted it,\u201d she continued. \u201cAnd I reached out [to Lala] and I was like, \u2018Hey, did your box come? Because I hadn\u2019t seen it posted yet.\u2019 I just wanted to make sure I didn\u2019t need to reach out to the publisher to be like, \u2018Hey, Lala didn\u2019t get her box.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Shay added: \u201cShe said that her brother and her mom deal with the packages and that she would have them check. But then a week went by and the box didn\u2019t get posted. So I\u2019m assuming she got it because she posted the book.\u201d<\/p>\n
